Recently while on a trip my water pump stopped working, or at least the switches stopped working. I checked the fuse in the converter and it was OK (I replaced it anyway). Everything else looked alright. I thought it might be the water pump controller because while I was checking it out, I noticed that I could touch the "supply" wire to the "pump" wire, and the pump would work and supply water to all the fixtures. (this is the method we used to take showers, etc for the remainder of our trip ) When I got home I ordered a new controller and installed it, but the water pump still doesn't work from the switches. I looked at all the fuse boxes that I'm aware of and checked all the "body" fuses and they all check out OK. My monitor panel works fine except for the switch for the water pump. I have two other switches, one for the outside shower and one in the bath. None turn on the pump.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks,

Jim

Jim Im not sure what you mean by "water pump controller"
The pumps Ive messed with run when there is voltage present and shut off at a preset pressure. If you can turn your pump off and on from more than one location
there is a latching relay that is operated by the switches and it sends power to the pump. Is this what you have?

Jim, When you hook up the wires to temporarly run the pump, will the pump continue to run even with the faucets turned off? I am wondering if the problem could be with the pressure switch? If the switch has failed in the open/off position the pump sees the system as pressurized and will not come on!

In answer to both questions,

Tim, perhaps the "latching relay" is the same as the controller. Mine says controller on it, and it's made by Intellitec. And it does control all three switches.

Nuthouse , when I "hotwired" it, the pump would come on until the water began to flow and would then shut down. As I continued to run water then it would come on again (for a short time) and then shut off. Where would I find the pressure switch and what would I do? I've had my RV for a couple of years now, and this if the firs trouble I've had with it.

is it possible that if one of the switches goes bad, then it would shut the others off as well?

thanks for the replies.

The pressure switch is part of the water pump .It's where the wires attach to the pump. It seems that that switch is working as the pump shuts off when you turn off the faucet. Don't know the answer to your other question.

I have run into that problem. It was caused by one of the remote switches being stuck engaged. Normally they are momentary switches, that is you engage them to change the state of the pump. Check for a sticky switch (mine was the outside shower), a short at the switch, or on the lines that run back to the controller.

I suppose you could disconnect the pairs of wires one at a time until you find the one that is shorted or stuck.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I found out the original controller was bad, and when I installed the new one, I had two wires "crossed" which caused the new one not to work. Apparently the new controller's wiring series was in a different order then the old one. (fortunantly I took a picture of the original wiring before I disconnected it). Again, thanks to all that responded. Jim
