I always assumed an RV (motorhome) was measured bumper to bumper. Someone mentioned that it's the box length that's measured. Which is it?
Basically....I'm wondering the differences in size bewtween a Class A and Class C. I assumed a 31ft Class A would be bigger inside than a 31ft. Class C because the cab of the C would take up some space?

Also, figuring same motor/trans and listed length, what's the approx. weight difference between A & C?

For any motorhome the length is usually measured bumper to bumper. At least that's what you'll usually find in the spec sheets. However, if you try to correlate model number (for example 31C, 27DS etc.) to length, you'll often find as much as a foot or two difference. Usually the rig is longer than the model number suggests.

For a the A vs. C comment, the A generally will generally have more usable interior space because in most the front two seats swivel around and become part of the living space.

Don't believe ANYTHING a salesperson tells you unless you have some reason to think they actually know what they're talking about. In my experience, most do not.

Our 2000 3865 DSDP (called a 38' by Newmar) actually measured 39'-11" bumper to bumper, our present 4090 (called a 40' by Newmar) actually measures 41'-3".

My parents first trailer was supposed to be 18'-2", to get that you had to measure the tongue and tailights that extended out past the body.

Get yourself a 50' yo-yo, and measure it yourself from bumper to bumper.
Whatever that length is, is the length that YOU have to fit in whatever spot you want it!
So if the salesman says it is 36' long, don't believe him, you can tell he is lying as his lips are moving!

My current 38fter is 39'11" bumper to exhaust. Previous 38fter was 39'2". My 36fter was 38something. I think the measurement is a 'guideline" to the buyer to compare floorplans. To get a reliable measurement use a tape.
