We have heard so much about Myrtle Beach S.C. we are thinking of going there for a nice vacation. Can anyone tell us where to go? How are the state parks (if any)? When would be a good time? We are retired so would September be a good time? Thanks for any information.

I've been going there in late November, early December - can be a tad cool, can be nice swimming (in a pool) weather. There are a number of parks in town right along the ocean full of RV's. We stayed a night at the KOA, which is quite central, quite big and shaded by pine trees, and we thought very nice. We stayed most of a week at Huntington Beach SP, about 20 minutes south of MB. Again very nice, 100 yards from the beach, many nature walks and salt marsh to visit.

September's still pretty hot in that area (we used to live in Charleston, years ago). And of course you have to be aware of the hurricane tracks. One of the best times to visit SC is late Feb through March - azaleas blooming, pleasant weather, and it's beautiful!

We go to Myrtle all the time (actually heading there on Wed for the kids spring break). September is a wonderful time to go, kids are in school so crowds are smaller, but the weather is still great.

You'll find everyone has a "pick" for the best campground. Our picks are Pirateland or Huntington Beach (but that's just our picks) - All the campground there are wonderful, just seach the sites & pick one that fits your needs.

We too travel each year to Myrtle Beach, our time frame is July 4th weeks...

Our destination is Myrtle Beach Travl Park, located in North Myrtle Beach. Having stayed in Pirateland, Lakewood and Apache, we have found this park to be more to our liking than the others.

Just outside of North Myrtle in Longs, SC is Willow Tree Resort. This is our favorite campground I think we have stayed at. On a lake, not the ocean, but just awesome. Check out their website. We were just there and we hated to come home. If we go to the ocean, we stay in a timeshare, but Willow Tree has my vote.

Myrtle Beach Travel Park(north end of Myrtle Beach)
Myrtle Beach State Park (south end of Myrtle Beach)

Both are on the ocean side-- the state park is very nice and has several full hookups.
September could be iffy -- possible hurricanes but there are not as many people. Lots of entertainment and restaurants-- you could do a day trip to Charleston--
Happy Trails.

Hi

Anyone of the major MB campgrounds will be pretty good in September, crowds should be thinning out and still have some pretty nice weather.

There is a State park on the South Side of MB, just north of Pirateland CG, drove through once, seemed nice and wooded for being right on the ocean.

We always have spent school spring break down there, this is the first year that we are not heading down, having mixed emotions about the decision, so we'll have to see what next year brings.

Have a great time!
