I've been reading a little about this surgery, can anyone tell me if they have had it or know someone who has. And how has it helped or not helped.

My sister-in-law had it, she was very obese (age 57) and she has lost some weight, but not what I expected from what you see on TV.......and watching her eat I know why......she eats really high calorie food......if there is dessert...she eats that first!!! Physically she says she feels better, and even the minimal weight she's lost has helped her knees.
On the news today I heard that Carnie Wilson (the singer) had gained back her weight even though she had surgery to reduce her stomach, she got thin, then went back up to 200 pounds.
I started on that program from the TLC channel on Sunday nights, "I can make you thin" and it's working (I like it because you can eat what you want, no diet foods, it just trains you to eat slower, eat consciously, and yesterday they showed how to control emotional eating in about 30 seconds.....next week it's on how to stop cravings.

I havent but my wife did. The weight has come off alright, its been over a year, and about 60 or so pounds. She pretty much swears by it. I dont know off hand, but there is a Lap-Band forum similiar to to RV.Net for those who have had the surgery and those wanting to have it. Do a WEB search of Lap-Band and Im sure you will find the forum. Good Luck

I have a friend who had the lap band surgery and has done outstanding with it. On the other hand, we have a relative who had gastric bypass surgery (not lap band) and lost 100 lbs, but has now put it all back on and more. I am hearing that this happens a lot. At least with the lap band, you have not permanently altered your innards.

I had lunch today with a old friend, he is 53 now, I have known him 20 years. 10 years ago he weighted 385 lbs. three years ago he weighted 484 lbs. He went with the Lap Band and in two years has lost 140 lbs. He told me 3 or 4 times at lunch that he would have died if he had not had it done. His daughter who is 30 had it done and lost 100 lbs. and looks like she did in high school.
My camping buddy just had the gastric bypass surgery two weeks ago and has lost 25 pounds already. He has three co-workers who did the same in the past two years.
If it were me I would go with the Lap-Band....and with more camping trips like this past weekend I could wind up needing it !!

I had one patient who had the lap-band and did well, lost 110 pounds. Ended up on dialysis due to diabetes. Oprah did a show: if I recall, they warned the food addiction gets replaced with alcohol, drugs, or promiscuity, and said counseling is absolutely necessary to learn how to avoid it.
My sister inlaw had it and lost 50 lbs my mother inlaw had the gastric bypass surgery and lost way over a hundred pounds but had more complications with it.

Long term success is questionable. Folks continue to eat " Funions " and DQ snacks. Also, since they can't eat large meals, they learn to graze all day.

Based on what I was told a few days ago by my friend who has had it done, he told me he is not hungry and may skip meals even. He said he was due to go in and have them set it small so as to lose another 100 lbs. I hope it keep working for him. He need something that worked very bad.
