As others have said, your insurance company should take care of it. If the park was responsible, you could look to them for the deductible and your insurance company could go after them for their part of it, but they aren't responsible, imho. If the branch had fallen off the tree and hit your stationary camper, that would be a different story, but YOU hit a stationary tree, and that makes it YOUR fault.

Years ago I had an airplane at a fixed base operation (fbo) for an annual. A big hail storm was headed their way, and they pushed my plane out of the hangar to make room for another one. I was mad as hell when my plane suffered around $10,000 in hail damage, but my insurance carrier said the fbo had every right to do what they did unless I had an agreement with them to keep my plane inside. After that I always got it in writing that the fbo would keep my plane inside and out of the weather.

Your incident sounds like something that happened to me at Quail Springs RV in Uvalde on my second trip out with the 5er. It was driver error in my case, I was watching another car and did not realize the street made a dog leg turn to the right and then left. TV followed street, RV went straight and kissed a broken tree limb. Had about the same amount and type of damage.

Looking at invoice right now, it was total, tax, etc. $7783.19. I have GMAC and $500 deductible. They had me take it to Ancira in Borene, just a few blocks from Alamo Fiesta RV Park. I too have stayed at Alamo Fiesta, but not back where you were. I am much more aware of tree limbs now.

We had the same problem several years back. The estimate to fix the roof was $5,000. I found out later the dealership where I traded contracted with a shop for $2500 to get the roof replaced. So the shop made their money and the dealer doubled that for me. The camper was 7 years old and our family had grown so we elected to purchase a new camper (not the best thing I have ever done). My neighbor replaced the roof on a camper for a friend. None of them had ever done it before but after a little internet research they figured out how to do it. Their cost was under $800 for the entire job (nominally 30ft 5th wheel). I know shops are out there to make money and they have expenses but I think they charge an excessive amount for roof repair.

I am camping this weekend with the cub scouts at a national park in the Ocala national forest. Because of my previous experience with trees and rubber roofs I went out there yesterday to check tree heights. I use my extendable brush I wash the camper with to make sure there is enough clearance. People thought I was nuts driving around checking clearances and I would have agreed with them until I found a real problem. Most of the trees are about 6 inches higher than the top of my camper with the exception of one. It’s on an inside corner and sticks out over the road about 5ft. The limb only measures about 11½ ft high and has a lot of battle scars on it I assume from other campers. When we go there I will tell the part ranger about it but I don’t think they will do anything. I don’t like going to these types of parks because of the tree clearances but for our kids a guess we will do most anything within reason.

Progressive did very good by me on my first camper after a tree fell on it. Good luck with your repairs.

So RSLZ4, how did things go with progressive? Do you feel like they have treated you fairly? Have you gotten payment yet? We're dying to know. Thanks! Happy camping! - ERic -

I've enjoyed all your posts and we don't feel so bad now. It's good to know we're not the only ones! Unfortunately, the day our adjuster called, he was robbed. His television and computers were taken along with other valuables. He has made the appointment for this Friday afternoon. Apparently, he's the only one who deals with RV's in this area for Progressive. Thank goodness for no rain so far! We've been talking to Ron from Boerne RV who is very near Alamo Fiesta. The adjuster said he'd look at the damage and then we'd head over to Boerne RV to discuss the repairs. So, as of now, we know nothing yet. Has anyone used Boerne RV or American RV in Boerne? I asked a couple of different people locally and they said to go with Boerne RV, but thought I'd ask you all.

On our previous 5er, I drove under some branches and broke the second AC shroud. Replacement was little over $100.

Ron at Boerne RV is good. Stay as far away from American RV as you can get. Also Ancira RV has a good maintance shop. Ron has done some work on our rig. Ancira has done work on a friend of mines rig. I would go to either one of these places.

As far as American goes I know someone that took their rig there for some minor work. They said never again this guy is not good. They had to take their rig to another place to get, what American messed up, fixed.

As you can see Iam from Boerne and I know of these places. I would never take my rig to American RV nor would I recomend them to anyone.
