My provider all the the sudden wants to text me.
I turned the text service off three years ago when I got this company as I did not want to be bothered by all the text messages I was getting.
Things were fine for 3 years until I got a text from the company yesterday about needing to set up my text messaging service.
I called the company and they informed me that the company reserves the right to text me and will continue to do so. This will include "important messages and offers by the company." I am going to look for another company to do business with. Apparently something new with them but they have decided they have a right to do this.
I informed them they could cancel the service.
Does your company text you?
At least on the internet you can block this stuff.

I am setup for text messages, and have never received one from my service provider.

They texted my phone a couple of times until I replied to the designated number with "stop". At the end of the text there should be instructions how to stop them from sending you those important messages. I followed those and I've had no more texts... from the phone company anyway.

Which provider? I started getting advertising texts from Verizon as well as others. I called Verizon to get the text charges removed and was informed that they offer a block for 'upper level' texts as they call them. Added blocks on both our phones--personal texts still work, ad texts are blocked.

My tracphone text me some promotions and service reminder. They do it just few times over 1 year service, so I don't mind.
Text service is very useful when contacting abroad. Lot of countries have problem with phone connections, but allow foolproof messaging.

Cingular/ATT have done it several times to my wife and I. I"ll have to try what CatandJim have done and see if that stops it.

We get a text msg from Verizon every month after we pay our bill. That's it.
