I run the firnace as a supliment to the dash heater. This way, the thermostat will maintain a constant temp and may only have to run a couple minutes every so often.

Since I have a camper, the only heat while traveling is from the furnace. I run the furnace when driving in the winter.

I do it all the time. Never had a problem. Usually, while traveling, I set the thermostat just high enough to keep the chill off.
