Our 99 Jayco needs new tires, so I went to the tire dealer to see what they would recommend.
Current tires are goodyear 225/75/15 load range C. Because of all the tire issues I've read about here I want to upgrade the load range and quality of tire.
Their recommendation was a ProMeter load E 10 plys. Has any one had any experience with these tires? They claim all the ST tires are the same just dif. name on the side and all from china. He also said that I should only count on one season of use for tires. That seems to be shocking statement. Can't figure if tire quality is really that bad across the board, just wants to sell tires every yr. , or thinks I'm a babbling idiot.
The idea of TPMS is not out of the ?. It's not the cost of the tire that is the primary problem it's the damage caused when a tire lets go.
To upgrade to 16in. rims and Michelin XPS Ribs was over $1400.00. The new ProMeters and TPMS system would be half the cost.
Looking for opions and suggestions
Thanks

I doubt if you'll find a higher quality tire than the Goodyear provided yours were made somewhere other than the Chinese stuff they're often peddling now. Titan St tires are made in the USA and you can still find SOME Goodyear Marathons made in New Zealand and probably a few other places and they're very good tires. When my Marathons finally are ready for replacement I'll probably put on another set of Marathons if not Chinese made but if they are I'll be going to LT tires rather than Chinese made. For what it's worth, upgrading to Ds is no guarantee of problem free use as there have been NUMEROUS posts of folks running over sized tires and still having problems. Good luck with your choice / Skip

You should ask that dealer if he changes out the tires on all of the trade in units he takes in and has on his lot...making the statement that you should only count on a year of service from a set of tires is ridiculous.

I just finished a search as you are doing. The only thing I could conclude from all the 1000's of threads on tires is that NOBODY has the answer, and EVERYBODY has an opinion. I think fully inflated, not over sped, not over loaded will allow any tire to succeed that's not defective. I'm sticking with my Transmaster (Chinese) ST radials. They are 10 ply, 16" wheels and support 3500lbs each. According to the theads I should have had miserable blowouts by now. I've been loaded to 19,800 lbs doing 65 MPH in 105 degree heat all the way from Seattle to Sandpoint Idaho and back and not one problem. I don't think I'm lucky, I think I have the proper size and enough sense to take care of them as a vital component of the 5'er. Read this article if you haven't already. I think it will give you vital knowledge as it has me. One final thought...I'd sure rather buy American than Chinese, and if I were needing to replace tires now I'd probably be looking at Goodyear...but then that's just an opinion.

Our 5er came with 225/75/15 load range D and I plan on changing them next year to 225/75/16 load range E.

Everyone can make their own choice. I choose NOT to use Chinese tires, and so far have not. My American made ST Coopers are doing fine so far after about 40,000 miles and 4 1/2 years. Don't know if Coopers are still made in USA, but Maxxis are not Chinese and have a good rep.
Please BE CAREFUL if you upgrade Load Range but not wheels. Most wheels I've seen are rated for the Load Range that original tires were. Rating is usually UNDER tire in center of rim valley. May be psi or weight. It is NOT a good idea to overload your wheels I think, just asking for a blowout. I know many do it, but 5 out of 6 people playing Russian Roulette also have no troubles.
In any case if changing tires I recommend new metal valve stems (rubber gaskets are likely same age as tires) and getting them balanced.

I understand that Maxxis are made in Taiwan. In my mind that gives me more confidence than if they were made in mainland China.

I bought my new set of Maxxis M8008 radial tires in January. They are clearly stamped Made in Thailand on the sidewall.

Why switch tires from the Goodyear??? You said your trailer is a 1999... it's the year 2008 now... although I'm sure your Goodyear's haven't lasted 9 years I'm sure you haven't changed tires more than once or twice. The Goodyears lasted several years so if you've never had issues with them then why change them?
If it ain't broke.. why fix it?

I'm reading a lot of tire stuf lately about Chinese this and Chinese that, but not reading much about actual user experiences with Chinese tires, like I was about Carlisle and Goodyear Marathon tires in prior years.
