and I did not notice it when I started to remove the cap. Of course I quickly found out. I screwed the cap back on and closed the valve. Unfortunately, there is a long distance from the valve to the end and the tube was loaded for bear. Luckily I had a bucket in the trailer, but what a mess. Now, what I don't know is did someone pull the valve open as a joke or did I forget to close it after the last dump? I've trailered for 15 plus years and have NEVER forgotten to close the valve. I'm leaning toward blaming someone for a "dirty" joke, but my wife says that it's probably my fault. When we got home I washed the hose, my shoes, the bucket and my gloves in a water/bleach mix. All I can say is I sure hope that this doesn't happen to any of you.....what a stinking mess.

Hey, don't feel bad. This morning I went to dump the black tank at a full hookup CG and when I pulled the handle, the stinky slinky jumped out of the hole.
At least it didn't land ON me.

I have a drain cap with a 3/4 inch connector on it. Before removing the 3 inch cap, I loosen the 3/4 inch cap. If it drips, it's bucket time. It's a lot easier to catch a 3/4 inch flow in a bucket than a 3 inch flow. Fortunately, I've never needed the bucket.

You gotta catch them Gremlins before they have a chance to mess with the unit, I've found bear traps work the best. You didn't mention if you were able to jump clear in time or are the shoes, socks and pants in the trash now.

I got the idea on here before it happened to us, and added a new valve right at the terminal end of the pipe where the hose goes on. Now I have to forget to close two valves. Doesn't mean I can't manage that though.
