Well time for nascar. I was thinking about going to Atlanta for the spring race but I'm glad I didn't pay to see that. Truck and busch race were good but the cup race?
Anywho we were looking to go to Dega for the spring race on our first wedding anniv(went there for our honeymoon) However I see they have changed the free family camp to "south park". It's still free but it's not designated as family. I got an unreserved spot at ATL last fall cause my wife said it was cheaper. To be honest I would rather had slept at home 30 miles away and just tailgated with the TT.
So do I need to bone up the $$ and get a reserved family spot? I plan on taking my 13& 14 y/o daughters with us and we like to sleep after 11 or 12.
My NASCAR experience has been generators running around the clock. That is fine by me. I run my fan continuously and it drowns out the noise. I am an early riser, but my wife has no problems sleeping in. I have not been to Dega yet, so let me know how it turns out.
Well you should have come to Atlanta.
We Love Nascar Races. Just to be there is great.
We saw some good racing between some good drivers.
How can you not be glad to attend a Nascar race?
You all need to check out www.nascarcamping.com
This is a great Nascar forum for people who camp at the races. Lots of Info on the tracks, camping areas, tickets, fans Lounge, and they are starting a Live Chat room. Come on over. There is a thread going about Dega.
For $60 ( I think that's what it is now) we do the reserved campground at 'Dega. Nice knowing that when ever you show up, your spot will be there.
Yes-- gensets running 24 hrs a day -- and lots of them "construction grade" with bad mufflers. What a pain with the noise , but it sure is nice to walk 5 minutes to our seats in the stands and not have to hassle with traffic. take lots of fire wood and contribute to the smoke !!
We'll be back in the fall
I bought mine several months ago. Te me the resereved campground is a bit calmer. (Its still a huge party though) Anyway, I purchesed two because last year we ended up having to get one off a RV.net user that was not using their ticket. I thought I rememebered paying $60 again this year but the stickers both say $85. I will have to look back on my records. I have one extra... by the way.
If you have never camped at Talledaga you are in for an experience. Think of Spring Break, Mardi Gras and Racing all combined into one "little" weeekend. The generators are a bit annoying, but after a while and a few beers you can not figure if the noise is the generators or if its in your head. By the way, if you have young kids prepare them as the Mardi Gras part of this experience is more adult oriented... or with out kids, bring beads. This is the case during cautions as well as at the camp areas. Talledaga has stepped up and is removing guilty parties but it still happens. Of course it happened at Daytona this year as well. Being a good Dad, I was sure to block the view so my son did not see what was going on.

Thanks ya'll Like I said my wife and I camped at Dega last spring for our honeymoon. We liked it in the free family camp area. Wr wrnt to Atl for the fall race and PAID 60 for unreserved and the thing that bugged me was the "people" cruising in thier trucks and hollering non=stop. Like they had never had a drink before and just went nuts all night. I can sleep with generators going all night. Idiots blasting their air-horns and going WWWWWWOOOOOOOO all night sucks. I gonna call the track in Dega and see if I can get a reserved family spot. Like I said before the free family camp was fime but they changed it to south park now do I don't know how family it will be. Sure we intend to have some adult beverages as well. My kids have been raised mostly by me by myself for the last 10 years(I'm a professional auto mechanic) so they may be girls but they're not sissys.
Thanks for your input ya'll. See ya in Dega
Check this place out. We stayed there two years in a row a couple of years ago. W/E hook-ups and a dump station. Real nice owners that enforce quiet hours just like a real campground. Shuttle takes you out to the main road. Abit of a long walk to the track depending on what your idea of a long walk is. Less than a mile I believe. If you don't mind paying, I think that you and the girls would be better off there. Good luck. Enjoy the race.
Ben with the girls do the family thing, and to make it interesting for them you may want to do the caves just south of the track
