If the general public would just slow down say 5 miles per hour, or even just go the speed limit. We would save millions of gallons each day and drive the supply up causing prices to drop.

Wow I have never seen so many silly thoughts on this. Oil is fungible. That means it will go where it is needed. No truck or car or plane or locomotive cares if it comes fromt he gulf or the tar sands of canada. We get most of our oil from Canada and mexico not the gulf. Now if the gulf stopped producing Canada and Mexico woud just raise their prices. They can not really raise output. The gulf states have the abilit to raise output and thus they control the price. THe oil companies are not growing but are spending their oil and are in liquidation. They are putting out more oil than they are finding in reserves. THey are refiners and have to pay the going rate on the market if they need more than they produce. VLO is a refiner only and has to buy all its oil. So all the folk remedies or whatever will not work. you do ntodrive one day or one week youwill just have to dive the next week. Now if we cut half the jet plane trips or every one thatis not full we woudl save a bunch of oil. If you remember after 9/11 we shut down the planes and the savings of oil usage was huge. They burn tons of fuel every trip we burn gallons.. a bus and a train would be cheaper fuel wise. Have no fear the high prices of fuel will do them in soon though.....

So to say an oil man is inthe white house is silly too. They do not run the oil companies unliike Hugo Chavez who does.... The misinformation and silliness on this topic is legend but I know I will not be able ot convince you of that so who cares. It will not be long that you will give up RVing since you will not have the means to pay 5 buck a gallon gas. IT is coming. It will hurt us all and it will wrench changes in the economy and the way people live and commute and work and play...... The outer suburbs are going to decline a bit unless you have a job center close....

I agree with trying to conserve oiland slowing down. I feel for the independent truckers. They are really hurting. Some of my trucker friends are passing off.as much as they can to their customers, It the same old song consumers you and me will end up paying in fuel charges. I dont think a boycot will work. I Dont know the anser but does anybody? Chuck.

And then OPEC cuts their production quota thus driving up the price per bbl again. How many "5 miles per hour" reductions can you do?

Ok, may not be a popular comment BUT in a global economy with demand increasing by every industrial and developing nation the price of oil is going to continue to rise. Check what other countries are paying for fuel and you may not feel sooooooo bad.

Don't get me wrong, I surely believe that oil, at this time, should not be over $60-80 per barrel which would drastically reduce the cost at the pump but about 18 months ago I added big oil to my portfolio and the gains sure do offset the price at the pump for the next several years.

To blame this on the government or even the oil companies is just silly. We need alternatives, more exploration in the U.S., new refineries and we need to be less reliant on the middle east.

I'll make a BOLD prediction here for all you "boycott, conspiracy, Exxon Mobil" types.

Ready - here we go.

Go ahead and have your strike and boycott.

My prediction is...........NOTHING WILL CHANGE!

I own Exxon Mobil stock also!

This argument is a silly as boycotting oxygen, or air, or water.

You folks need a hobby.

As much as all of us would like to see a boycott change the price of fuel (downwards), it will not happen.

Let's say if we all boycotted Exxon/Mobile, the minute that they lowered their price, most people would go over to their stations to fill up. People have no will power to stick with a plan. Money talks, so they will immediately jump ship and go to the cheaper station. That 'short-lived' discount will last about five minutes and the prices will return to normal (high). It's nature, people are so predictable!

MM. PS. My advice and 25 cents will get you what? Nothing!
