Does anyone know of any good campgrounds on the coast of NC that are on the beach? Any beach?

None that I know of actually ON the beach, but very close. Kitty Hawk has one at mp4 that is just across the street from the beach. There is a state park at Oregon Inlet that is between the hwy and the dunes. There are other cgs on the Outer Banks that are easy walking distance to the beach.

Outer Banks-- Camp Hatteras
Hatteras Sand
Hatteras Koa
there are a couple more that you can find on
visitnc.com
Also there are some National campgrounds -- no
hookups.
Emerald Isle -- Happy Holiday
There are a few near Wilmington but not on the water.

Surf City, on Topsail Island. but is small.
There is also one on Holden Beach, at the pier. Nothing but a place to park your TT, while you fish. But it is on the beach.

IMO Holiday Travel Park on Emerald Isle is wonderful.
Only thing seperating you from the beach is the dunes.
A bit on the high side in price but I think it's worth it compaired to other options around. Emerald Isle is more of a laid back beach, not touristy as Outer Banks.

Heading to Cape Hatteras KOA in 2 1/2 weeks. Not on the beach but from what I see, a one minute walk. Can't wait, first trip of 2008!

Ocean Waves, Hatteras KOA, and Camp Hatteras are on the beach. The only thing between you and the beach is a dune. I like Camp Hatteras myself, the sites are good sized, good service. If you go, take a day trip to the Hatteras light house. Beat beach north of Florida.

My favorite is Ocracoke Island. They take reservations and the ferry there is free. It is a national park so no hook ups and cold water showers. (I'm a boondocker so I don't care.) BUT, they have miles and miles and miles of unspoiled beaches. Not a fast food joint on the island. Instead, some of the greatest pubs and restaurants for fresh seafood, a working harbor with a tiki bar on the dock, lighthouse, quaint shops, the list goes on.

I agree with the Holiday Travel Park on Emerald Isle. The beach is nice. Outer Banks water is colder and kind-of rough for kids. But nothing beats Oceanlakes Family Campground at Myrtle Beach!
