Hi All. New to this forum. Usually on Class A motorhome forum. I briefly skimmed posts about West and Florida. We have been full time since 2002 and winter in Florida. Have stayed in all areas of Florida. Our first year we traveled the whole state staying a week or so at each park. To be fair, there all all levels of parks and price. Level of crime is from from nill to wow! Prices have went through the roof in the last few years. One company has basically taken over the smaller parks and made it very costly to stay. December through March has doubled in price. If you have Coast to Coast, Passport etc. you are blocked out and have to pay "the price" We love the weather, waves and endless variety of things to do. Today we panned for sharks teeth on the Peace River. Grand kids will enjoy those.(free) Been to Key West at ninety-five dollars a night for camp site. Stayed on the Gulf for two hundred dollars a month (first time guest special)so many different prices, you just have to plan. We just purchased a Thousand Trails membership and stay two weeks in at no charge and a week out at ten dollars a night.Time to check another state! Would like info on Arizona and Texas. Which has similar weather to Florida? Just love Sunshine State weather!!Bottom line, every place is God's good old U.S.A and we all should see as much as we can. Enjoy the fact that we are able to have the choice. Happy and safe travels to all, Judd and Jan

Both states will be colder than south Florida in the winter. East Texas has the humidity of Florida; Arizona does not. No beaches in AZ.

Judd and Jan
The main difference in weather is that Texas has Cold Fronts that rush through with high winds and big temperature drops. It is cold(40deg and up) a day or two and then high pressure takes over and the weather is beautiful. I live on Corpus Christi bay and our average this winter(Dec-Mar) 59deg. It is warmer further south in the RGV. I looked for 8 years for a place to retire in Fl. and finally found what I was looking for in south Texas. Texas has so many different things to offer(RGV, Gulf Coast, Hill Country, East Texas, Big city, small towns, ect) I would suggest that you come and take the time to look around and find what you like. Texas has wonderful, low cost State Parks where you can park while looking.
Good Luck

check out Lake Havasu City Arizona. cooler than Florida, but nice. and it has water! no waves unless the wind is blowing. We stay about 80 miles south of Havasu, near Quartzsite. We are 80 miles north of Yuma(the warmest place) again prices vary. Yuma can be pricey, its all what you need! We pay about 1495.00 per year plus elec.Yuma and Havasu have lots of shopping. We don't. We shop either in Blythe Calif. or Parker Arizona for groceries. We like our park and are returning next winter(will be our 3rd here in this park). We are gold prospectors and enjoy the desert. The Colorado river is nearby and does have a few little beaches on it(exit 1 Ehrenberg) Also outside of Yuma on the Proving grounds is Martinez lake with campgrounds, again this is the river. Have fun doing research, good luck. Dona and Elvin

We are from So. Florida originaly & have spent winters in So. Cal.(San Diego) & Houston,Texas. This winter was spent in Polk county, central Florida. You will not find Florida's winter weather anywhere but Florida. Texas & Cal. both had beaches but the average daytime temp. was in the 50's, grey, rainy & windy with nighttime temps. in the 30's. In between you may have a few days in the 60's-low 70's. All are great places to spend time, but we will spend our winters here in Florida.IMHO Happy Trails!

San Diego has the worlds best weather, year round. No comparison, except in prices.

Approximately 150,000 snowbirds winter in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Low cost of living & much to do. About 700 parks to choose from. We did not see frost at all this winter.

Well, I can't agree with you, I was sitting in Yuma this winter, always watching the weather and Yuma had the better weather Jan-Mar than San Diego. And you are right, prices to high. How come we had a lot of Californians come to Yuma this winter? Rio Grande valley is to windy and humid. Florida is to expensive and crowded. I like Yuma.

We did our first winter in Texas this year after finding Florida getting much too crowded and expensive. We liked the Gulf coast around Rockport, but as previously stated, more rain and fog. The Rio Grande Valley had quite a bit of traffic, but unlike Florida, it kept moving at posted speed. The drivers seemed to be a lot more courteous too. It was a little too hot for us (80's and 90's most of the time) while we were there in February, but most of the people there like it hot, so they enjoyed it. Another thing we didn't like about it was the lack of water (beaches, lakes, etc.) although South Padre Island is only about an hour drive depending on where you stay. We then checked out the Hill Country around Fredericksburg and Kerrville (west of San Antonio) and found that beautiful, but pretty cool. I guess the point is that each spot has its positives and negatives, so you need to try them for yourself to see which areas make you smile and which don't. One thing I will say about costs in Texas is that we saw some really nice RV parks for about $300, and some fantastic ones for about $600. You'd pay AT LEAST twice as much for a comparable park in Florida. In fact, I'm kinda picky when it comes to RV parks, and I saw a couple for UNDER $200 (yes, under) that were not that bad at all.
