If this is your first trip into Mexico, please read my sticky's at the top of this forum.

When you open the FAQ Mainland and Baja Border Paperwork you are in the Baja section. There is another link at the top to take you to the mainland section (each forum is limited to 3 sticky's and Baja was the first one that the moderator so kindly made a sticky). You can also check my travel blog for info about crossing the border at Lukeville.

A good starting point for a first visit to Mexico. Just remember that the further south you travel the true Mexico and people will be revealed. Not at all the same as Rocky Point. Be sure to get the Churchs book and read this forum to get an idea of the bigger picture.

I agree. I felt the same way except I was traveling North. First I hit San Diego in the U.S and found the true U.S and its people farther north. Same thing in Canada. Drove into Vancouver and didn't hit the true Canada till I went farther north.

For those of you who have stayed at Playa Bonita or The Reef, any idea on normal lead time to make a reservation? Say for two weeks in March or April

The Reef. I've rolled in without reservations and stayed a month. (last year) It wasn;t beachfront but i have seen people get beachfront depending on length of stay.

This year we made reservations about 4 months ahead of time for beachfront. Alot depends on your length of stay. I believe the Reef can usually get you in. Give them a call. Also, again depending on length of stay, the dry camping area is good. If I was going for only 3 or 4 days, I'd go for the dry camping.

Playa Bonita. I used to stay next door but that was 2 years ago. Things change. Someone else should have current info.

We've been there twice. Feb 2006 and Feb 2008. I can't wait till we go again. Totally relaxing. The two nicest campgrounds, on the beach are Playa Bonita, and The Reef. Both are lovely. Playa Bonita is about a mile closer to town, more established, but only 30 amp service. The Reef is newer, not nicer, I didn't notice a pool or spa, not sure, but 50amp service. I'd not hesitate to stay at either. The 60 mile drive in across the border is easy, 2 lane road, well marked. Everyone speaks English (more so than in my home town), and the American dollar is welcome every place (maybe not at Pemex Gas, don't know, never needed gas there it is only 60 miles South of USA). Propane truck drives through the parks every day. Lots of nice pictures on the web. Reservations are definitely recommended. Enjoy and happy Trails.

Otto,

Not to steal this thread, We are in PP at the present time from our return trip from down south in Lo de Marcos. We just showed up and are staying for 2 weeks. The rv park has about 30 or so rvs in it and has 300 spaces available....This is at Playa de Oro. I don't think you would need reservations here, that being said, you could make a reservation probably a month in advance if you chose to do so. We have been coming to PP for years on our trip down and back and this is the deadest we have seen it. Good luck!

Crispy, Thanks for that input. I wonder why it is so dead. Could it be that the two newer resorts have taken business away from Playa De Oro?. I visited Playa De Oro several years ago-not in an RV. It was nice and close to town. There were a few resorts right near it that I believe have closed their business. At the time, Playa Bonita was pretty new and The Reef didn't exist. I guess I won't worry about making any reservations too soon.

OTTO, it is just that time of the year. As the heat increases the Snowbirds head north and we get our Bit of Paradise back. By the end of April everyone will be gone but the local Desert Rats that remain year-around. We are staying less and less in the winter because of all the visitors/snowbirds. Just life! Summer is GREAT with the Monsoons and that includes Rocky Point.
