For Northern Wyoming, Verizon works the best (although coverage in the area still isn't like what you are used to in more populated areas.) When we had Cellular One, (now Alltel in our area) we could be outside in our yard - actually looking at the tower on the ridge and still couldn't get service.

We have been to Montana several times and consider Verizon to have excellent coverage.

We have been using Verizon for almost three years and the only place we couldn't get a signal was 30 miles east of Meeker, Co. We also couldn't get any radio stations or tv reception til we got the dish network. We also use their air card and anytime we can get a cell signal we can use the card. Works great for us.

I have sprint and am paying $60 a month for an air card. That is pretty much the going price in all cell phone companies. Most of the places we go on the road have free WiFi, those that don't have a comercial WiFi that runs $30 a month. I just got off a 5 month run from winter tour from south Florida around the Gulf Coast to south Texas and then to Arizona. I only used my air card once in Arizona and could have gotten WiFi for $30 for a month. That said Vorizon has a program for temporary WiFi that you can turn on and off when needed. As soon as my contract is up in June I am switching. By the way my Brother lives in Montana and has Vorizon and swares by it.

Dont touch Sprint....have their blasted Samsung phones until Nov....would cost 400 to get out of contract with only 6 months left...they dont prorate and the coverage is poor.
Have the Verizon wireless broadband card....good coverage on the east coast from VA to FL...Will switch to Verizon phones in Nov....

I'm from Montana and go back there frequently, and have Verizon, and have never had a problem with coverage anywhere I have been in the state.

If you plan to go to the middle of nowhere, in Canada, then Verizon is your best bet. They are partnered with the provincial and Bell phone companies. The rest use Rogers. Rogers has far less coverage then the others.
We have had little trouble with Verizon.
