Quote: If you have a big rig, the next exit book does not tell you how convenient it is get in and out of these places. We have had to pass up some places because we could not get in. That is extremely frustrating to me.
It was my understanding that the locations (gas stations, restaurants, etc.) that offered wide access for RV's were printed in RED in "The Next Exit". We've found that to be pretty accurate.

You need to use stops listed in red. Its outstanding for finding where you can get in and if they have diesel. I need 13' plus about 6" to be safe, and it hasn't failed me yet.
I set my trips up using it and base my stops on my anticipated fuel needs.
In my opinion there is only one drawback and thats is its Interstates only. If the ultimate includes major hiways, then I would use it, otherwise I'll stick with the proved.

The Next Exit is ok but like the other poster says you can get in to trouble with it. We where on our way home Saturday from Spring Break in Myrtle Beach and needed gas. The wife got out the book and got off exit 29 in Kentucky. The book had the Pilot travel plaza in red and we got off and it was full and not rv friendly at all . Could not get in with our coach and toad so tired going around to the back to get out . They had a log chain stopping us from getting back to the truck side. I did not see the chain till I got to the back . Had to get a worker to unlock the chain to drive through as I could not back up with out unhooking the toad. Went down the road to a Loves Truck stop and got gas . So you do have to be careful and just because it is in red don't forget to check it out before you turn into a night mare. After 200 miles the wife was talking to me again, and we got home with out anymore problems.

Purchased ours at the Pomona FMCA rally last month. Believe you can buy via www.milesbymiles.com
I looked briefly for this book and could only find on place which lists it - Trailer Life site - and it says nothing about it being spiral bound, it being available in that binding, nor does the picture show it as such. It's quite a bit more money than the Next Exit book.
Also, the link above does not seem to be valid.
There is some business connection between Trailer Life and Exit Now (the Ultimate Traveler's Exit Guide) because if you buy a three year subscription to the Motor Home or Trailer Life mags you get Exit Now 2007 for about $6 +S&H, but it's a separate company.
There is a spiral binding and that's the one I bought at the Quartzsite RV show - 2008 version, they gave the 2007 version free as a bonus.
I haven't had a chance to use it yet so don't know how accurate it's going to be. I will have to check around and see if any of my friends have a Next Exit I can compare it to.
It is either $25 (standard binding) or $29 spiral binding +S&H of $6.
At the show they waived the shipping and handling charges.
If I had realized how much more expensive it was than Next Exit I probably wouldn't have bought it. I think I was confused between Exit Now and Next Exit.

I just checked out the link for "Exit Now" and I think it is better then "Next Exit". I haven't bought "Next Exit" as I didn't like the layout. I was given an old (2001)copy of "Exit Source" and liked the idea that it was layed out to just follow along on pages by interstate number. What I saw of "Next Exit" it was by state then interstate number, you had to find the new state when crossing state line, didn't like that. It looks to me that the "Exit Now" book is set up to follow the interstate by number and I liked all the color codes and special for RV's. I will be ordering one or getting one at next rally.

Yes it is laid out by Interstate number. Flip pages to the right to go East or North and left to go West or South.
We will head on up north in a few days and will be able to see how well it does the job.

Ultimate Travelers Exit Directory is new and wins hands down. I say this after using the other one. Buy the spiral ring edition as it will lie flat when open. Very complete and color coded.

I will second that one...we bought 4 of them at the show in Pomona last month. One for us and one for each of our 3 children. We used it coming home to Michigan. We found it very helpful.
We also bought the spiral ring addition.
Would I recommend it....yes
