I drove route 20 from the East to the West about a month ago. There was some construction on in the East bound lanes near the LA/GA border. Remainder was much better than route 10, which we used Eastbound. You may need the Air Conditioner once you get into TX

We came from Louisiana through El Paso in January. The road was fine, headwinds burned a little extra fuel.
We took the center lane through Dallas / Ft Worth without any problems.
