I remember ('way back when) that in springtime and early summer we often camped in places where the evening fireflies were everywhere and put on a great night time show. In the past couple of years, I can remember only one place where the fireflies were abundant. It's time to go camping and I'd like to know if you have seen them recently!

Yep they're more of a May or later item around here but in the spring and early summer they're thick in this area.

I agree that, generally, they are scarce. I remember catching literally dozens in a jar as a kid... now, it's rare to see one or two!

We live in New York near the PA/NJ border and the fire flies come out in abundance in June and July. My kids still love to catch them and when the nieces and nephews visit from the Boston area they love its the highlight of their trip.

Oh boy did we have them March 14-16 in our front clearing at the cabin in East Texas south of Crockett. The temps were right at the low 70's. It's always a joy to see them each year along with a pair of bats circling and feeding over the campfire thermals. Later you might spot a satellite crossing in the pitch black sky among a billion stars.

we have them in late june and july when it warms up pretty good.

Fireflies are brilliant along with the fireworks on the 4th of July here in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont!

In sw PA, June/early July sounds right. Some years they are more prolific than others, and dusk or just after is when they are at their best. Still have as many (most years) as I ever remember as a child - and I can't get enough of them
when they're at their peak. The mosquitos are a different story!
We also have quite a few "glow worms" in our area.
