DH and I are thinking about taking a Wyoming trip this fall. We love the Tetons so we'd start there and are considering see the country between Jackson, Hoeback Junction and Riverton via Dubois. Does anyone here know of the Forest Service campgrounds along that route as far as site size? We have a 32' TT plus 20' TV making for a long pull. Sometimes FS CG's are small and tight. Any information or suggestions for RV parks along that route would be great. Thanks!

Here is the link to the Shoshone National Forest (which you will be traveling through on the way to Riverton from Moran Junction. http://www.fs.fed.us/r2/shoshone/recreation/camping/campgrounds2.shtml
Scroll to the bottom of the page to the Wind River Ranger District.

There are several more campgrounds off the highway. Dispersed camping is allowed. Remember you will be in black and grizzly bear country so keep a clean camp!

I was in western WY last summer with my truck camper. Stayed in a nice FS campground south of Hoback Jct on hwy 189. Go to my RV Travels webpage (link in signature) and look at the 8/26/07 entry for a picture and GPS location. You could call the FS and ask about the size of the sites. As I remember, they were pretty roomy.

Nice country. I hope to be back in WY this summer.

Here's a great website for NF campgrounds

forest camping

The couple who runs this site have personally been to almost every NFS CG in the country! Lots of detailed info with great directions (and warnings for "iffy" roads), info on things to do, number and size of sites, etc.

Thanks Palomas - We were considering first staying at Grand Teton Park RV Resort just East of Moran Jct but they had terrible reviews here on rv.net. I will continue to check out forest service campgrounds instead. We're thinking of taking the loop from Moran Jct to Roverton, then up to Greybull then back through Cody to Yellowstone. How's that loop drive?

Your Route sounds like a good planned one. Beautiful country. You might want to consider going thru Lander. Here are a few sites for there.....
