I'm planning on bringing my kitten that has been with us for three weeks now, and need advice on what to beware of and devices I can use to keep her under control.
We have a small 5th-wheel and also bring our Sheltie with us, which the two of them get along great. I'm just a bit of a worry-wort, but I can't bear to leave this little girl home with the other cat for a week with access to a doggie door. Boarding is out of the question.
Suggestions are needed. I'm thinking maybe a harness is in order, and I'm working on where to put the cat box and food.
Thanks in advance.

I think you might have a hard time keeping a harnes on a small kitten. Cats are adept at escape tactics. Your best bet is a small animal carrier, and have the kitty in there when unsupervised.

Be sure you have your eyes on your kitty when opening and closing slides....keeping her in the carrier while doing this is the safest way to know where she is. If she's riding with you in a tow vehicle the carrier would also be the safest place for her--no worrying about her getting under the drivers feet! If your bed has storage space under it, that's a great place for a litter box....we've cut an access hole and the box sits up in the very top of the space with a carpet remnant to help keep the "gravel" contained.
Traveling with a cat is a great experience--they're so easy.

Difinitely use a crate/carrier. Start putting her in it while at home so it is not a strange thing and she will learn it is a safe spot to be. Keep her in it while traveling and until you are set up so she doesn't get into small spaces like the slides areas. I favor using a harness - it makes a great handle when you need to grab rhem fast! If you cannot find a small enough one in the cat dept, try looking in the ferret equipment - that is where I found a figure 8 style for my tiny chihuahua. The best style IMHO, is the one with only a neck & chest strap - some are "figure 8", some have a short strap on the back from the neck to the chest strap. The regular style harness like dogs have is rigid enough that is easy for them to twist around in and escape from. If they are accustomed to a harness from a young age, they do not object to them. Actually, I didn't put a harness on Sam until she was several years old and she didn't object. She was never crate trained, tho, and hates it. )We adopted her as an adult.)

Be sure to get her used to a harness right away. We'v been putting them on our cats and taking them for "walks" around our property. They won't necessarily follow us around like the dogs do, but it's enough to keep them close to us when we're sitting outside. They get a bit of freedom to sniff around and explore, but they can't get too far.

My aunt's new kitty is learning the outdoor harness. He seems fine with it!

We travel with 4 cats and I keep them in small wire dog cages while traveling. I put an old towel in the bottom of each cage and they settle down and go to sleep. I do not let them out of their crates until we have opened the slides. The cages fold down flat for storage and keep them safe while in motion. Mine are all indoor only cats and so far no escapes.

We use the Daisy harness/leash combo .. except for Petunia I have taken the leash part off and use our leash .. there is a swivel part on the harness onto which a leash can be hooked. We bought the harness at PetCo .. no advertisement, just info on where we bought ours.

I'm also going to be traveling with my cat and am planning on using some sort of crate/container type thing. I'm just wondering if those of you that do travel wtih cats have a litter box in their travel crate ? If not, do you stop along the way and let them potty ? How does that work ? I don't want him "holding it" since male cats are prone to urinary blockages.
Thanks
