We camp without satellite...actually, we camp without cable! We bring a TV, but only use it if the kids want to watch a DVD. We're outside the majority of the time! We'll be making a cross country move this summer and will probably opt for some normal TV at some point in our trip, though!

Looks like the thread drifted off topic, but then again it's a TV thread.
I think it's great that folks buy a nice Class A and head for the campground. When they arrive they plug it in, stay inside, fire up the AC, mix a tottie and watch TV, look how much time they get to spend enjoying their RV and at least they are getting out and enjoying what they enjoy doing.
We have a small Rosen LCD TV. "When" we are in the trailer we plug in a movie, generally an older comedy while we cook, eat, shower, and clean up.
Unless the weather keeps us inside we seldom "watch a movie", the one exception was when we first purchased The Long Long Trailer and we did make it a point to sit back and watch it while we were out camping.
It doesn't matter what you enjoy doing camping as long as you are doing it.

We do not have satellite and do not plan to get it. We do have a digital ready LCD TV on which we watch the local channels and we are also Cable Ready if the site offers it. If we are close to a metropolitan area, the reception with bat wings is decent for analog channels and great for digital. We also take along a DVR/DVD player loaded with a couple of hundred hours of programming on it. It has a variety of stuff on it, from movies to news shows to comedy to games shows etc. Between trip we fill up the DVR from cable at home. Although we are camping, I still enjoy watching a little TV before going to bed after a long full day of outdoor stuff!

I have a dish I hookup if there is no cable...
I like to make sure I can watch football games and like NASCAR and that is relaxing to me...
I have been driving down the road and at kickoff found a nice spot to sit for a game...
I seldom have to be anywhere soon and have the time to do as I please...
I have already sat out along a waterway myself watching a game on my handheld and the gator's swimming by... got my fill of nature and the game at the same time... only the gator's couldn't understand why I got so upset when my team fumbled...
different strokes - different folks...

We can't have a satellite at home due to tree coverage, so we certainly don't have one for the trailer. We don't watch TV when camping unless its a quick check of the news or it's raining. We'll pop in a movie if it is raining. Sometimes our 2 year old gets a movie in the AM when we want to stay in bed (he's up at 6 most mornings). Other than that, a radio does the trick if we want a little noise.

I shut off my dish at home almost a year ago so there is no way I'd take it with camping. I camp to get away from everything except my family. I have three kids, 13, 9, and 6 years old - home life is great with no tv. Enjoy some fresh air and imagination! ;-)

No fancy setup here, but we do like to watch the news at night and in the morning. It's still camping to us.
