The mh has been sitting awhile. (We've had it checked out...4 new tires...ouch, oil change and brakes) We'd like to take a short trip before we head out west later this year. Thinking about Savannah. Anyone know of any campgrounds in the area?
Thanks,
Toni

Jan. 2007, we stayed at Savannah Oaks, which used to be called Bellaire Woods, I think. It was a good stopover, not a destination type campground. The staff was helpful, it was secure and not far from Savannah. We did not use any of their facilities though, so not much help on that end. If you stay there, try to be further back from the front fence as the road traffic is a little noisy. Savannah is such a fabulous city though - be sure to take one of the bus tours, which you can catch at the visitor's center. You can hop on and off whenever you want, but you'll learn so much about the history and the city. Have fun.
The outdoor resorts at 133 Arrow Road in Hilton Head Island is the best for seeing it and Savannah. The ride to Savannah is about an hour through the country side.
We have stayed at Whispering Pines in Rincon. It is about 15-20 minutes from the Savannah River front district. We found it comfortable and a nice retreat after a busy day in the historic district.

Just arrived at Hardeeville RV, about 15 minutes north of Savannah. Not a show-place but good enough for us, full hook-ups, cable and WIFI. $180 for the week.
We recently stayed at Savannah Oaks/Bellaire Woods. We'd stayed there before but we had a travel trailer at the time. I thought it was really nice and large sites and great location before, this time, the sites seemed much smaller, the cable reception was terrible, we were in a site that was right off the road, we heard traffic all night long and we were too far from the office to pick up wifi. I wasn't impressed this time. The staff was very friendly, but it's not a great place. I have to agree with Linda, it's a perfect overnight type place, but not somewhere to go if you want to enjoy the campground. There's really nothing to enjoy!
Skidaway Island State Park. Just outside Savannah, large shaded sites, nice trails, 50 amp, no sewer but has a dump, and it's only $22 a night.

We just returned from Savannah a couple of weeks ago. We stayed at Skidaway Island and loved it. The sites are huge and there is a lot of wildlife to observe. It is close to Savannah but very quiet.
