My HP DeskJet has worked fine. You have to remove the ink cartridges for winter storage. Just save the covers for the cartridge print heads, put them back on, put in plastic bag and put in house refigerator till next time.

Inkjets are so cheap now that it's hardly worth buying new cartridges for them. You are lucky if they last a year. I've seen a 25% failure rate in the first month. Total garbage.

Epsons are the nicest and most compatible but have the built in print head that clogs if you look at it the wrong way. With HP your lucky if your six month old printer will be supported with the latest OS version. Actually your lucky if your HP makes it to six months. If you can find drivers for a Lexmark that work you then get to hunt for somewhere that carries ink. Canon give you the convenience of a replaceable print head but you are lucky if it doesn't clog well before the ink gets low.

Not all inkjets like to be left on. Some don't park and cap the print head, others generate enough heat around the head that it dries it out.

To unclog an Epson (maybe), keep a set of empty cartridges and fill them with alcohol. Install them and run a whole bunch of cleaning cycles.

I agree. I have an HP inkjet (purchased at Wal-Mart for $30.00) that has worked fine in heavy college use. This printer has been from 1 ft above sea level to over 12000 ft many times, from humid climates to dusty ones, and has never had a problem.

I would go to the store and buy and HP.

If you can live with black & white printing, check out a laser printer. I gave up on ink jets - don't print often enough to keep the heads clean. Printing your photos at Walmart, Staples or Costco will give better results, and in the long run save money.

And considering you can get a great b&w laser printer at Dell for about $100.00!

Thanks for the input. Think I'm going to change over to HP after having about four or five Epsons

I have never had a inkjet that didn't give me problems, HP, Cannon and Epson all in the trash. One low cost Laser out prints them all 3000 pages a toner cartridge.
While color Lasers have come down, they are still a big investment. If you do like to print they are worth it. I think they easily pay for themselves in homemade cards and pictures for friends and family.

Power. InkJets will work when they are powered from a modified sine wave inverter. Most lasers need a pure sine wave inverter.
I have two HP printers. I can't even remember when I got them I've had them so long. The color cartridge in the one I use the most has been in there three years. I just keep refilling it and it keeps going.

I went with the El-Cheapo (Brother) monochrome laser for the trailer. I can print faster and cheaper than an inkjet. The cartridge doesn't dry out if it sets too long, and vibration seems to be good for it. If I want pictures, then I find a 1-hour Lab and have real photographs made, not laminate prints!
