We have a Kymco Grand Vista 250. It's a great scooter with plenty of power to propel both my wife and I as fast as we want to go. Top end with just me on it is around 85mph. The wife and I can ride comfortably at 55 to 60 mph. It has plenty of storage and a digital dash readout. It also has power folding mirrors. Riding solo I get around 60mpg. I purchased mine used, less than 1 year old for $2900.00.

I'm looking at a Tank touring 150 now. I'll use it for work more than with the rv. But when I'm ready to go fulltiming I'll check to see how it's going along.

Unfortunately especially with the cheep Chinese scooters... you get what you pay for. When you buy them over the internet you have no local dealer to help you with problems and repairs. Other than Kymco scooters I have not heard of many customers that were satisfied with their purchase even though it was cheep. You don't want to be away on vacation in a strange town and broke down on your scooter. I have motorcycle insurance that includes towing. (just a thought).

Can you toss a scooter in the back of your truck? Drive it up a ramp?

We bought a used Honda Helix, I think ours is mid to late 1980's for under $2K a number of years ago. It rides both of us 200+# folks easily, tops at 75mph, around 70 mpg and we can fit in a few bags of groceries and strap on a 12 pack of beer on the back rack! We can park the rig and tour for many miles in comfort and sightsee to our heart's content. We also carry along extra rainjackets, a first aid kit and a camera in the back trunk compartment. We actually like riding this better than the big Honda Goldwing we sold a few years ago!

Although we carry ours on a back rack on the motorhome, you could probably run yours up a ramp into the back of the box of your truck and use motorcycle tiedown straps and eyelets?

Aside from the Honda/Yamaha/Suzuki/Kawasaki dealer in town, just down the road from them is a small shop (so small that I don't know if they'll stay in business) that sells Aprilia and Kymco. When I mentioned the cheap Chinese scooters he said he worked on some so I guess if I need work done, he'd do it even though parts are hard to come by. But there are places online that can get the parts. I've visited the ScootDawg scooter forum and the brand I'm getting is made at one of the top 2 factories in China. And alot of forum members who have the Lance scooter report minimal, if any, problems. The engine is a Honda clone so again, parts shouldn't be too hard to come by. I can't justify spending $3500 on a Kymco Bet & Win 150cc when I can get a 150cc for $1300. With the money I save, I can rebuild the Lance if need be. I might just use the Lance to get my MC endorsement and then sell it and buy a Suzuki Burgman or Yamaha Majesty 400cc. Ugh! If only I had that 6th number on my lottery ticket.

Whoever said "Money can't buy happiness", didn't know where to shop.

Anybody got one of these? I've always wondered how they would be.

But you know, at the price he paid if you can't get parts throw it away and buy another one and you're still ahead money wise.

The problem is how much weight that can safely carried on the back of a 5er.

At 260# plus the weight of a carrier you will be at the limit that can be carried on the back of a 5er & not void any warranty. Very few builders will approve carrying that kind of weight at all.

I did some research on it thinking carrying a bike would be a good idea for local touring & errands. Here in Bermuda bikes such as a 150cc scooter are a staple of transportation summer & winter, rain or shine.

These days most 150cc 4 strokes are powerful machines. They are not enough for 2 on a highway but more than enough to get around town for 2.

The bike I was all set to buy, before changing my mind on the whole idea, was a Yamaha TW200. Dry weight about 250#. This bike is a street legal offroad bike suitable for easy trails with 2 on it.

Scooters are great but, be warned, the little wheels make them dangerous especially on gravel surfaces as found in so many CGs.
