Hi everyone,
DH and I are looking at maybe upgrading to a new rig this year and were wondering about the central vac system option. It would add about $300 to the price and we were wondering if it is worth the extra $. We have never had a rig with a central vac, we use a little upright and it works well. Any thoughts/comments from those of you who have or have had a central vac in your rig would be appreciated. Also, what brand was the vac and would you have another. The rig we are looking at offers a Eureka central vac.
Thanks all and Happy Camping!

Wow, I didn't even know that central vac would be an option. These rigs are getting more deluxe than my house!

The better half insisted we have a Dirt Devil central vac installed on our new Laredo. With three large dogs that all shed, I'm certain it'll come in quite handy. Whether or not to choose a central vac system over some other handy, small (and likely much cheaper) vac is probably a matter of choice. An installed central vac unit is always ready and neatly tucked away without taking up another storage cabinet.
One nice thing about the central vac unit is that the hose is plenty long enough to allow us to use it to get the dog hair out of the tow vehicle also.

I don't know I'd consider a central vac a necessity, but I sure like the new one we have on the 5'er. It's mounted on the inside steps and it has a little lift-up door that makes all the stuff I sweep up magically dissapear. No dust pan, no spilling the dust pan. And the long hose is nice too, when we hook up and actually vacuum. There is a second hook-up in the cargo bay that the DH really loves. Essential? probably not, but handy? yes. It came as a part of an option package on ours.

Installed a Dirt Devil in our Class C a couple weeks ago. DW thinks its the best upgrades that we have done to MH. Installed it ourselves under kitchen sink. Did not take up much usable room. I believe the Eureka model is larger than the Dirt Devil.

The wife loves ours. It was an option but as you know the option prices are where dealers can cut thier bottom line. An after market system is easy to install in some units.

We have a central vac in our new coach and we haven't been all that happy with it. Main reason is the unit did not come with a rotating head of any kind. The suction is awesome but the absolute cheapest floor size rotating head that I could find was another $170 plus shipping. I also didn't like the loud slapping sound the hose made on the floor when using it. Also make sure if your unit will be suction driven or electric. On ours there is no way to plug in an electric powered head because it is suction driven only.
We went ahead a purchased an upright to use because it was recommended by Consumer Reports especially for pet hair on carpets. It is working very well.
By the way, our central vac is a Eureka Yellow Jacket.

Sig. 5er came with a central vac system, never had one before, but the DW sure loves this set up, it could suck up a black hole It works great and does an excellent job. I'd recommend getting one as an option if it works as well as the one on the HR.
