Our girls are quiet until something sets them off....an unusual outside noise, or barking from another dog. Heck, sometimes the TV shows will get one of them going! It's usually short lived, and we're working on making it better all the way around. We haven't had them out on a trip, though have "camped" in our yard, just after buying the MH. First trip will be in 2-weeks, to a Papillon Show of all places....so it should be interesting...parked along side all those other RVs with dogs! We're spending time getting the girls used to the MH, so maybe they will be comfortable, and relaxed once we actually start camping. They do love being in it though!!

That should be a real test for you and the dogs.

campground?
what happened to the manager?
he disappeared?
you can't chain dogs outside in a campground, I would ask for my money back

I totally agree! We just spent 5 days in a camp ground that our neighbor left their dog chained up outside all day and night. It barked and barked and BARKED!! Very annoying!

I think every campground we've been to has had rules against leaving pets unattended. WHere are you all finding CGs that let you leave them unattended? We never left our bulldog, Winnie, before she passed away in Sept. alone because she would definitely bark and we certainly didn't want to make her miserable, make the neigbors miserable or break the rules.
May will be our first trip with our new furbaby, Hooch, a rescue bulldog with a very calm demeanor. Hoping he loves to camp.

If we have to leave our two dogs for a short time, we do as a couple of other posters have mentioned: close the blinds and turn, on the T.V. and run the fan. If dogs can't hear or see what's going on outside, they're less likely to bark, unless they have separation anxiety issues, which ours, thank God, don't have. Barking dogs drive me nuts!! We pulled into a site a couple of weeks ago, and heard a yapping dog for several minutes (with no end in sight for the barking - owners were right there letting them do it). We decided to move sites before we even set up. Luckily, we were in a state park where sites weren't assigned, so we just pulled out and moved right then.

Barking dogs are neglected dogs... that's why they bark. But fortunately the owners can have their vocal cords removed. this will then make up for their shortcomings.(the owners that is)

This doesn't always work!!!!! A truly committed barker can shape their throat and still bark - it might be a little hoarser-sounding....but a bark all the same!!!

I think that Jmcnab was saying that the owners should have their vocal cords removed, to make up for their shortcomings....not the poor dogs.
And yes, I've heard several Shelties, who have had their voices changed with the surgery you talked about....but they could still "bark", it just didn't sound quite as loud!

weathershak, This question is slightly OT, but where did you find your fencing? We'd love to enclose our camp sites as you do.

I went thru 10 days of pure hell and I posted about it last summer(dogs barking)... I will never wait more than an hour or 2 again for anyones dog to settle down. I learned being nice doesn't work.. If I have to go over and ask some one to keep thier dogs from barking.. It means to me they are ignorant. I mean really how can anyone think its ok for a dog to continuely bark? (I understand if some one is walking by etc)

I broke down and got my little dog a bark collar.. I felt so bad at first.. but you know what? He learned quick collar and no barking.. Now he can come camping with us! I use it at home, as soon as he hears the Mail Lady on the next street over he will bark.. so at 2pm I put his collar on till the mail lady leaves. lol he is such a dork! He now dances at the door instead.
