This is the best way. The change out is very easy to do and you will kick yourself for not doing it sooner

Leave it hooked up to TV in my eyes its the safest way and in half hour your good to use your new power jack, best invention for a travel trailer in my opinion.

Hey John I use to fly jump planes and I would ask myself why anyone would want to jump out of a perfectly good plane just because the door was open.
The hardest thing I had to do was close that stupid door, You have to slip the plane to the right lean over and throw the latch, I had to let go of the wheel to reach the latch while doing this and I would some times ask just who is the dumbest?

When I did mine I used the TV WD hitch to hold up the TT. Worked real easy.

Hey guys. Really new here but I've been lurking for a little while. Looks like everyone is very helpful on here. I've had my travel trailer for 5 years and still have a manual front jack but have always been interested in an electric one. So, how difficult is it to change it? (I'm no handy man. ha!)

Three bolts to remove. Lift the manual jack out of the a frame. Clean the a frame of rust and paint. Put the electric jack in. Replace the 3 bolts and run a the wire to your battery. That's about as straight foward as you can get. Now remember to keep the manual jack some where so you can swap back if you trade your unit. Whew I had to watch how I phrased those instructions.

Now, even I can handle a project like that. Thanks for the info. and the quick response! Yeah, I can see where you had to be careful with the wording on those instructions. ha!

I'm thinking of adding one too. I see some have 2 inch tubes and others 2.25 or 2.5. Will they all "fit" on any trailer? I plan on going with the most powerful one I can in case I trade up someday.

I haven't worked on a lot of different TT's but what I have seen seems to indicate that the actual hole through the A frame is the important dimension and most will accomodate any of the electric jacks you will find. The biggest challenge on mine was that the battery tray is mounted just behind the jack and the mounting plate on the electric jack overlapped the battery mount by about half an inch. I ended up using a ginder to take some off the back of the plate. But, including grinding, repainting and mounting it only took about an hour to do. Also, putting it on the TV seemed the safest way to go for me. The wife absolutely loves it. I also recommend putting as big of one on as you can. I put a 3500# one on mine and it makes lifting the rig so much easier for connecting the WD hitch.

Don't work on your own trailer...you're going to kill yourself. Pay someone to do it safely...if you have to ask these types of questions you're not capable of performing the work.
