My mother makes smoked sausages with the saurkraut in the slow cooker. Ive never tried it with pork chops. my husband is french and theres a dish with saurkraut (or similar) and smoked meats and pork that has not been cured or smoked, not too sure what part it is. They just put it all together. Sorry couldnt be of more help.

I brown the pork chops, then saute some chopped onion and maybe some chopped apple, put all back in frying pan, pour can of sauerkraut over all, cover and simmer till done. Could be cooked all in a crock pot. A little salty, but tasty. I'm not sure about how much liquid to put in the crock pot if any. Good Luck

I brown the pork chops first before I add the sauerkraut. I usually let it simmer in a stock pot. Sometimes I make dumplings out of biscuit and add to it the last twenty minutes. My husband doesn't like sauerkraut so I usually have sauerkraut and smoke sausage and cook pork chops separately.

Tumbleweed:
Try rinsing the sauerkraut with cold water first, it takes some of the salty taste away.

Lucy:
I just put some sauerkraut on the bottom of slow cooker, put down some boneless pork chops and put some more sauerkraut on top of the pork, sprinkle a little sugar (to cut the sour) and cook all day on low. I don't add any spices, meat falls apart. Make some mash potatoes and yum......

I've found that most folks that do not like sauerkraut have never had it done proper:
Get a #10 can at GFS or some smaller ones at the store, rinse real real well
Chop up a sweet oinion or two and saute, saute some garlic 4 or 5 cloves
add kraut and a smoked hock, add a good quart of chicken stock and some water to about a good half liquid, add in some beef and chicken boullion and slow cook for an hour and a half. Add about a good 1/2 pound of fresh sliced mushrooms and a tablespoon or so of carraway seed and simmer again for an hour.

Now you've got it, though some in a cooker with some chops or sausage and slow cook till done. You can add some boiled spuds as they make it a meal in a pot!

Think I'll be go'n to the store

Pork Chops in Sauer Kraut

Brown chops in veg oil and remove from pan
Slice a large onion and layer bottom of crock pot
Add one 28 oz can of diced tomatoes and one
28 oz can of sauer kraut to pot
Add 1 tbs brown sugar
Add 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Place browned chops on or in sauer kraut/tomato mix
Cover and set crock pot on low for all day or
one hour at 325F or till chops are tender

So sez DW, and I can attest to their being yummy
Works for me.....

we usually do country style spreribs with sauer kraut.
We always by the kraut in the bag, (in the refrig section) it's much better than canned.
put the ribs and kraut in a slow cooker or large pot on stove and slow cook all day. that's all. 2 ingredients. Couldn't be easier. German soul food!
My German grandmother did it this way, but I think in her younger years, her sauer kraut was home made in a big crock.

  • No need to wash or rinse (try "Gundelsheimer" Sauerkraut, its the best)
  • Press/Squeeze Sauerkraut
  • Make Ham Base, 1 Teaspoon Ham Base on 1 cup of water (or one cube of Ham Bouillon)
  • 1 Big Onion chopped, make glossy in a little bit of oil
  • add Water and Ham Base to onions
  • add 1/2 package of Oscar Meyer Real Bacon Bites
  • Place Sauerkraut in Base
  • Add a little bit Pepper
  • Cook for 20 to 30 minutes (or slow cooker 7-8 hrs on low setting (4 hours on high) - place pork chops on top)
  • Thicken with Potato Flakes/Buds (3 to 4 Table Spoons)

My wife told me what to write here, never done this myself, all I can tell you is that I LOVE this recipe.
