I know that you are only allowed one 1.14L bottle of alcohol (or case of beer, etc.) to bring back duty free after a 48 hour trip out of the country. Is there a limit to how many bottles you can bring back by declaring them and paying any necessary duties? The price is so much lower in the U.S. I'm thinking of bringing back about 15 or 20 l.75L bottles of Vodka, Whiskey, Rum, etc. for gifts, personal use, etc.
Anybody know if there are any limits on how many bottles can be brought back and how much the duty is per bottle?

You can access BIS free of charge throughout Canada by calling 1-800-461-9999. If you are calling from outside Canada, you can access BIS by calling 204-983-3500 or 506-636-5064 (long-distance charges will apply). If you call during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. local time, Monday to Friday, except holidays), you can speak directly to an agent by pressing "0" at any time during the recording.
There is no limit on how many bottles can be brought into Canada. Duty on a $10.00/1.75 litre of liquor is $8.34 for Alberta, $24.00 for BC. Haven't checked for Ontario.

I have read on here before that the duty on booze above your limit is $1 per oz. We drove through the border twice about 3 weeks ago, once to the USA at the BC border and out again at the Ontario border. Somewhere I saw a sign saying that it was $1 per oz, so maybe that was into Ontario if the $24 for 40oz is correct. Sorry I cannot remember where I saw it.

I live about 20 min from the Ontario/NY border and have always heard that it is $1 an oz over your limit. I have never tried to bring that muhc liquor over but I often bring beer and its only about $9 a case when over your limit.

From what I read, duty is one thing,
there are also excise taxes.
provincial taxes and GST is added on top.
So
Original purchace price in the U.S.
Converted to $CAN
add duty
add excise taxes
Sub total
add GST
sub total
add provincial sales taxes.
TOTAL PRICE

I'm in the beverage alcohol business here in Ontario.
You are allowed to exceed the duty free allowance by up to 45 litres without any special authority.
Give either of these numbers a call if you must.
