In our case, the big tv was fastened to a piece of plywood screwed into the floor of the cabinet. We had to remove the front piece of framing and then just unscrew the plywood. My husband took the frame and went to the hardware store to buy a piece of oak plywood to build this into a cabinet door. We built the door and then got a flat mount for the lcd tv. Installed that to the door and into a thicker wooden brace behind it. Cut a hole for the power cord and cables behind the tv. Mounted hinges and a handle, and have it ready to install. This gives us all of the space where the old tv was for storage. Planning to use it for pillows and blankets (and one large stuffed teddy bear!) I'll try to get photos this weekend.
jdkd123,
Slight delay...we had it in to the dealer to get the slide adjusted. Just got her back today and had to attend school functions. I'll get the photos up as soon as we get it installed. Thanks for your patience. How do you like your Concord?
For those of you that asked, here are the photos of our project still in progress. We have a few finishing touches to add, but here you go.
Replaced our 27 inch tv with a new cupboard door and a flatscreen lcd tv. Now we have storage for pillows and blankets. We used the wooden frame that was around the previous tv, and bought a sheet of oak plywood to attach it to. We used screws and wood glue and some of the previous holes. Added a handle that almost matches the rest of the camper hardware. Hinged it from the top with three hinges.
A view from further back. (Ignore the missing cabinet door on the right--we took it down to help us match trim, hinges, and handles and just haven't put it back up before this photo was taken)
Close-up view from the side showing the wall mount and the hole for the cables.
This is our new storage space. Once we cover the exposed insulation with a piece of paneling and attach the cords to the ceiling, we think we'll have room for pillows and hopefully a teddy bear!
Looking up from below the tv to show you that we just cut out a rectangle where the component cords attach to the rear of the tv. It doesn't show unless you get directly under the tv.
A view from the back side of the door. It shows the cutout and the support we put on the back of the door to help hold the flatscreen mount on. We used a regular wall mount (non-tilting) and screwed it through the door and into this extra piece of wood. At this point, we haven't put on the door struts that will hold it open to allow for better access. We will put two latches on the bottom edges to keep the door from moving while we are driving. We also plan to run the cords up to the top of the ceiling and then down the back of the cabinet, attaching them with cable ties and a bit of velcro.
It works!

I am wondering about the swing mount and what you used to anchor it in place during travel. I would like to do a tv mount similar to this but mine needs to go inside the box my old tv fits in. My slide covers half of the tv opening and very little space in front to mount the flatscreen tv. So, I need to come up with an idea or two, how to set the tv inside the box and be able to anchor the swing mount and keep the whole thing from moving when underway. Sounds easy when you say it real fast
Thanks for any and all ideas from you RVer's out there who may have done something like this.
Great pics. I'd love to see anyone's set up with pics, as we're still trying to decide where to mount a 19" flatscreen with an articulated arm mount........
