I have found the camper I want to buy. An Outfitter popup. My dilemma is how to get it home. I have a Dodge 2500 but there are no tiedowns on the truck. I don't want to spend a lot of money putting tiedowns on because the truck is for sale. My next truck will have a flatbed so the tiedowns would be of no use. I looked into buying some at Camping World but the total cost with fastguns is about $1500. Is there an alternative safe way to just get the camper home? I have to move it a couple hundred miles on flat highway.

Load it and without tiedowns drive very slowly and carefully home. It won't go anywhere. You might have a friend follow you in a car and with his cell phone let you know if something seems wrong.

If you can find a place for the ratchet type straps to hook onto that would be sufficent. I had to do that with a larger camper and it worked out fine. Good Luck.

On the assumption that you are purchasing a new or used camper directly from Outfitter, keep in mind that they routinely deliver their campers around the country. I suggest checking with them to see about this option.

How about a Belly Bar? Easily installed and removed and usually universal from truck to truck.

Check eBay, usually you'll come across Universal "Belly" Tie Down Bars for anywhere from $20.00 to $100.00. Then just go to the hardware store and buy some heavy turnbuckles. That should solve the problem. I wouldn't recommend ratcheting tie down straps, they tend to stretch and open up at times.
Worse case buy a universal kit and put it in yourself, then put it on eBay when your done.
Good Luck

Thought I would give an update.
I met the owner to look at the camper and guess what? He reads this forum and knew of my dilemma. Well, we arranged so he will deliver the camper to me. You meet some great people on this forum.
I have decided to forget the flatbed route, maybe someday. Thanks for the Ebay advice. I looked on Ebay and found Torklifts and turnbuckles for 100's less than anyplace else.
So, soon I hope to be out on the road with my new rig. I'll be they guy with the grey Dodge, Outfitter camper, 2 crazy dogs and a big smile.
