From Ft Nelson on up to Tok..it gets a little worse as you go,but there are still the area's that you can drive 55-60 mph. After Tok it kinda comes and goes{the frost heaves I mean}but seems to get a little better. We tried to see The Mountain in Denali, but she wouldn't show herself for the 2 days we were there. They said she only comes out for about 20% of the year, you just have to be there at the right time.Currently on our way to Deep Creek,Probly for a week or so..startin Sat. night.Maybe we'll see some of you there!! Hey Steve & Teresa,

Keep an eye out for us. We're leaving Seward tomorrow 6/14 and heading for the Alaskan Angler in Ninilchik for a couple of weeks. We don't check in there until Monday so will just stay wherever for the next two nights...do a little open exploration of the coastline from Kenai to Homer I guess.

We hope to meet you sometime...safe travels!

It has been awhile since we have had reliable internet service. I think it is safe to say that we are homeward bound now, even though 'home' for the truck & trailer is still over 6000 miles away in MD.

We arrived Valdez today. Thompson Pass was interesting. Hope to see it on the way back. It was in the clouds today. Visibility, less than 100'.

Get enough fuel for round trip in Glenallen. You don't want to know what gas is here, even with that big pipe dumping oil into the tankers right across the fjiord.

Well met up with 427435 today...we had a nice visit and it was very nice of them to invite me iside their MH. You don't get a priveledge like that often! Most RV'ers don't mind meeting you and talking outside their RV's (that's pretty much the accepted way) but to be invited inside is a real honor!

We talked about fishing and other Alaskan activities and had a nice visit. And that makes three RV.net "personalities" I havbe met so far this summer!

Now who'll be #4???

Homeward bound, currently in Seattle for maintenance. What a fantastic trip we had to Alaska. Certainly a trip of a lifetime and one we and our RV, will never forget. Border crossing at Sumas was a bear, almost 2 hours to get across and they took our dog's food. (Not in original container)
Safe travels all.

loggenrock, Don't know much about flying to Fort Yukon...never had cause to go there! But if a flight up north strikes your fancy, how about flying to the Arctic Circle? If memory serves, you can fly up there, have lunch, get your picture taken there by the sign (they may even still give out the certificates) and be back by dinnertime!

Fort Yukon is a good place to see what a rural community is like in real life. It is one of the larger Athabaskan Indian villages that has a long history of dealing with first, Hudson's Bay company and then Northern Commercial company. During the early years HBC felt that Fort Yuk was inside Canada and therefore OK for them to establish a trading post there.
It had been many years since I flew up to Ft. Yukon in my plane but the mail plane operation by Warbelow should be good. A young person I knew in Galena, Richard Carrol, runs a tour of Ft. Yukon for visitors. His family was from Ft. Yukon and his dad worked for Wien Airlines, in Galena.
A visit to Ft. Yukon will show you a part of Alaska, people and scenery, seldom seen by tourists or residents of the state. Not too many people venture off the paved roads.

loggenrock, I have to work the next three days (Mon Tue Wed 6/16 thru 6/18), but if you're still at North Pole or in the area and want to meet I can stop by after that. Just let me know where you're at then.

Thanks, AkT & Joe b - I think ft Yukon is above the circle, with the whole picture - thing, too. Our hope is to see "real" life off the road, one reason we wanted this fly-in. AK T - will let you know where we "land" after today! Thx! ST
