We left NJ Sunday, 6/8, we're crossing into Canada tomorrow AM. We have spent 3 days in Glacier NP. We have reservations for 2 nights at Banff and then 2 nights in Jasper, before traveling to pick up the Alaskan Hwy. It's been great reading all the posts, helps us to get a feel for what to expect.
For those of you already in AK, are the cg's full? Caravans at capacity? Just wondering if fuel prices have kept some folks home. I like the idea of cg availibility, but sure don't want the local economy and local folks up there suffering.

Well klm, from what I've seen so far this summer you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a spot in any campground or rv park. I haven't see one yet at capacity. In fact I am anxiously awaiting the 4th of July to see how the parks and campgrounds are doing by then. I like to be able to get into a spot too, but I don't want to see them start folding due to lack of business!

I am sitting in Bear Paw (adult), Valdez. Been here 3 nights. Not even half full. Other CGs in town are nowhere near capacity too. Strong WIFI (secure & no extra charge) plus cable (at no extra charge) here too. Tourboats running at far below capacity. No problems anywhere in AK for CGs yet.

We've have yet to find any of the rv parks we've stayed at since we crossed the border that was even 1/2 full. Most of the time when we pull in and ask for a site, they just tell us to pick whatever one we want and come back and tell them what it is.
Traveled between Ft. Saint John and Fort Nelson today. The highway was almost empty. Would only occasionally see a big truck or another rv of some sort. We hardly ever get above 55mph and am just about the slowest vehicle out there. Had a big 5'ver come up behind me and then rather than pass, just followed about 100 meters back for over 50 miles. Those who did pass, did so very slowly (speed limit was 100 km/h (62 mph) as most were obeying the speed limit.
Rain! Every day.....rain! Yesterday was the best day so far, and it only rained a few times for a few minutes at a time. Green, green, green. For desert rats, this is something really unique for us and we're loving every minute of it.
Should be in Watson tomorrow evening!
See ya

Well here we are in Whitehorse. We left Red Deer on the 27th of May and have only gotten this far! All the side trips! (chetwynd & Bennett dam were highlights) We had planned on staying in Whitehorse a day or two. So far we have been here 5 days, so much to do! going to go up the dempster highway in the next week or two. Then back to dawson city and over the top of the world, and on in to Alaska. After that??? Just want to say I find this forum invaluable for advice and road conditions etc.. what a great forum!!

In Jasper, check out Whistlers Campground. From there, on the road to Alaska, there's a neat little "community" campground in Beaverlodge a few miles before Dawson Creek.
In Fairbanks, the River's Edge park was at least 90% full and the campgrounds in and near Denali are pretty full. We've been trying to stop by 3:00 pm so haven't had any problems but some campgrounds are doing OK.

For anyone going to or coming from Valdez there is a pretty little state rec CG just N of Glenallen that is worth an overnight. It is dry camping but at $12, who can complain. The private Glenallen CGs look like dirt carparks.
Also, for a resupply stop on the way to Kenai or coming from Kenai & close enough to Anchorage for a day trip, stop in Wassila. We did Alaskan Trails CG each way. 50amp no extra charge. WIFI no extra charge (worked sort of). Permitted to wash RV at site, no extra charge. Full hook ups at every site. New & clean washroom & laundry. The place is a work in progress. Site grading & reliable WIFI could almost make it a 10. The owners are trying & deserve support.

We are currently parked at the River View RV Park in Fairbanks. Nice campground with free Wi-fi and RV wash. Park is about 85% full. I'm curious about the town park in the North Pole. Can someone please explain its location?
Thanks,
Kathy
