We are heading up again(third time in this camper, once before in our last camper)on July 11th for a quick three week trip. Nice to read about current conditions and info. Not looking forward to the high diesel prices but hey, you can't take it with you! We will be on the Kenai at Swiftwater muni campground as usual for a week of sockeye fishing with our friends including Ernie from Anchorage. Denali highway on the way down and a couple days to visit "the Great One" at the park...have been soooo lucky the last 3 times there and the mountain was out in all its glory (in July of all times!). Going back on the Cassiar again and spending a few in Hyder. Great bear watching. Heres a link to our 2006 video of a wolf and a momma Griz and cubs! Hyder Bears and Wolf

We left Whitehorse yesterday and immediately lost almost an hour due to a wreck at the AK Hwy and 2 mile hill intersection. Finally, the cops showed up and started directing traffic. Had to disconnect the toad and back the rig up about 500 feet before I could take a side road. The wreck was a tractor-trailer t-boning a small import pickup. Someone was still inside the pickup (on its side)and the fire dept was trying to get them out. Sure hope they weren't hurt bad.
Then up the Klondike highway about 20 miles from Carmack, we once again was stopped due to an accident. This time is was a motorhome (about a 32' gasser) that had run off the highway and turned over on the shoulder. Again, don't know the extent of injuries. We think the rv was part of a group as we saw six or seven other motorhomes about a mile further on pulled off on the first available area and all the people were out standing around.
Anyway, got into Carmack and decided to stay the night. As it turned out, so did two other motorhomes that shared rv sites with us in Whitehorse. So we all got to enjoy each other companies again.
Today, on to Dawson City, and lo and behold, the three of us are once again in the same rv park (Bonanza). We will be staying here for several days...taking the boat trip up the Yukon to Eagle before we head over on the TOW highway. Anybody know where the cheapest diesel is here in Dawson City?????
The road from Stewart's Crossing and Dawson City was pretty bad. In most cases I was not going more than 35 and some times almost to a complete stop. Damn, some of those frost heaves are really hard to see when they are in the shadows, and if you hit them over a few miles and hour, you'll get the front tires off the ground. Ugly! Had several doors pop open, and the fridge was a jumble of things all over the place. Toad had several more paint chips on the top and toneau cover.
However, we are really, really enjoying ourselves.
See ya on the road..

We just arrived in Whitehorse at Hi Country where we'll be for a couple weeks. Roads to here have been just fine a little dust, some gravel, some potholes and the worst was a 2 foot piece of 4@4 which I managed to avoid. This campground is pretty nice and we are looking forward to staying put for a while.
From the looks of some of the rigs coming in from the North I think we'll be taking some precautions for the rig and toad for the rest of the trip but have been lucky so far.
We should arrive in Chicken, 2 weeks from today. We really enjoyed the Columbia Icefield, on Tuesday. We are headed to Prince George, where we will stay 2 nights.
We're at Dawson city (Bonanza) and will head over the river (via the ferry) on Sunday while on our way over the TOW and to Chicken. We'll stay a couple of nights at Chicken while we take the toad to Eagle.
While at Whitehorse, we took the toad over to Skagway and road the train and did a lot of shopping. Georgi, you might want to try this yourself. Great trip, good road, fantastic scenery.
We plan on staying at Tok a couple of days and then on to Fairbanks (River's Edge) for the week of the 4th. Does anyone know if Fairbanks provides a fireworks display on the 4th and if yes, where?

Ron,
Usually there is a fireworks show over by the fairgrounds or at the university. However, because it doesn't get real dark this time of year they have to wait till late to be able to see it at all. If memory serves, it usually goes off around 10:00 pm If you email the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, they may be able to geive you more details.
I know that Pioneer Park has a 4th of July shindig every year that you may want to attend. And there you could find out about any fireworks show...I'm sure someone there will be able to give you the time and place.

Thanks Wes... we'll do just that. With the long days, we have sorta gotten into the habit of not going to bed until 11:30 or 12 and not getting up until 7 or so... so waiting up until 10 to see the fireworks won't be out of our character.
Sorry we haven'been on here lately-been have'n trouble with my computer. We're on our way back down having about worn out FMOS at the Deep Creek Campground.Great place but a little cold being its on the ocean and your only 100ft from the water--never got over 60F the 5 days we were there. The AK hwy is alot more torn up comin back down than when we went up{3 weeks ago}.From about 50 miles above Whitehorse on up--Go easy and watch for the bumps-lots of gravel thats actually in better shape than the pavement. And lots of construction.Alot more animals in the Yukon & BC than Alaska too.Unless you count Denali & thats a Zoo.Looks like a few more people startin to make the trip now that its warmin up,and ALOT of them are from Germany-they must market AK to the German Population Cause it seems like everybody we talk to is from there. Also, heads up for motorcycles--Many,Many bikes are on the way and alot of them are BMW's--not many Harley's in the mix.Heard don't do the Cassiar unless you don't care about your vehicle. Its very bumpy with lots of gravel & construction. Also Top of the world on US side is the pits--Canadian side is ok though.Gas over there is around $1.45-1.60 Liter.Enjoy while you can--next year nobody will be able to aford it.
Not a problem Ron...that's what I'm here for - to swap info with everyone! Let me know when you get into town and I'll try to stop by for a meet-n-greet!
