We'll be heading up the AlCan to Whitehorse mid to late June so KLM and others if you want some reports on what we find with a 40' footer we'll post here or PM if you want.

Meanwhile we are reading and enjoying everyone else's posts thank you all.

Hi all! Been wifi-deprived for several nights!!! We too are well on our way - headed from NH up to Montreal, across to Sault Ste Marie, back into Michigan, across Rte 2 into N. Dakota, then up into Canada and onto Hiway 1 West. VERY good travelling this route - minimal grades, minimal traffic, GOOD gas mileage - I'm getting between 15 and 17.5 in our Roadtrek, travelling at around 62 mph, which on many of these roads is the speed limit. I would DEFINITELY recommend this route to anyone! Tonight is a "regular" CG night, we are in Calgary West CG, bit pricey, but needed laundry, showers, wifi, etc. Calgary itself is a traffic nightmare!!! Will be glad to leave urbania behind again!!! Gas suggestion - Canada Superstore has decent pricing, PLUS we've gotten up to 7 cents/litre back in store credits, so that makes it very fair pricing. Record so far $4.996/gal Cdn... I am sure we will see it go higher!!! Expect to start on the Alaska Hiway in maybe 4 or 5 days after playing in the Rockies around Banff/Jasper. See ya'll at some point! ST

Well we are staying River's Edge RV Park for a couple days (just checking things out before we head off to real vacation!) and we met with foggymtn...it is always nice to put a face to the handle!

If any of the rest of you Alaska-bound travelers are in the neighborhood, give a shout out and maybe we can do the howdy-do!

This is my first posting and first involvement in any forum so let me know if I am violating some rule. We are planning a trip to Alaska with some friends...two class A about 35ft. We will leave Washinton State and go to Fairbanks and then return by way of the marine highway. We are trying to decide whether to take one toad. We know we can rent a car, especially in the larger cities, but Susie and I are concerned that there will be sites along the way that might be better viewed/accessed by having our own car. Any help with this discussion would be appreciated.

Welcome, realbob. We will be leaving NJ 6/8 to head to Alaska in a 38'DP w/toad. We decided to take the car, it doesn't make much difference in our mpg, and we certainly don't want to have to drive the rv everywhere. Be aware, you must drive rv/toad on to the ferry separately. We are taking the ferry southbound in late july. Do you have reservations yet? I have never been to Alaska, so my opinion is just that. Maybe you'll hear from someone more knowledgeable than me. Anchoraweigh, you might just catch up with us yet. Are you in in Savage or the CG next to the highway? We had 2" accumulation a few mornings ago but it was gone in a couple hours. Last night was 1st of 3 in Talkeetna then on to Wassila for a major resupply.
