Hi kpitch,
Well the "town park" in North Pole is called Santa Claus RV Park and you probably passed it coming into town unless you came up from Anchorage.
If you are in River's Edge RV Park by Fred Meyers in Fairbanks, then you just go out to the first stoplight (where you see Fred Meyers on the corner. Turn left (you'll be on Airport Way then) and stay on that street clear through town. You'll come to where they are doing some road construction but you can get past that. You'll turn onto the Richardson Highway and see a sign North Pole 15 miles. Stay on that highway till you reach North Pole and you'll see Santa Clause RV Park off to your right by the big 40 foot Santa statue.
Now if you are at River View RV Park on Badger Road, then you follow Badger Road around till you get to North Pole, go past the MacDonald's and take the roundabout to get to the RV park.
Once you get to North Pole, if you still have trouble just remember that the park sits off of the highway and you can't miss it. Anyone in town can tell you where it's at since it's next door to the Santa Claus house.

Thanks for your response ak traveler. We are familiar with the North Pole campground, but prefer not to camp there as it looks like a big gravel parking lot. I thought the poster was referring to a municipal campground that we did not know about.
For travelers heading to Delta Junction, we can recommend the Clearwater Creek campground located about 8 miles off the Alaska Highway, but worth the drive. Nice sites, no hookups, but the real secret is the Clearwater Bar located at the exit. Its more than a bar, the food was outstanding and was recommended to us by the person working in the Delta Junction Visitor Center. As we leave Fairbanks, we will drive that way again just to stop by and dine there again.
Kathy, If wooded camping is what you want, you can stay at the campgrounds at Chena River Rec site there in North Pole also. It's a rec site so it doesn't have full hookups (not sure what hookups it has at the moment) but it does have plenty of trees!
Just follow the signs past North Pole and you'll see the turn for it on the left side of the road.
We have travelled the whole route, Prince George, Dawson Creek, Whitehorse, Dawson City, Fairbanks, Anchorage, Homer, Seward, back to Whitehorse, Watson Lake. It was a great trip and one we will probably never do again. It was very interesting to see everything for the first time and to experience all we did.
But I had a hard time with RV Parks in Anchorage wanting over $45.00 per night and in Homer as high as $85.00.
I have missed something along the way. It is beautiful country - don't get me wrong but why are we the targets to get enough to last the rest of the year. I'm sorry we have travelled most of the USA and most of Canada but never before have we felt victims.
Most Fred Meyers and Walmarts, Legions, Elks, welcome visitors but the government agencies force the companies into posting signs that you will be towed if you try parking overnight.
Where that happened we left. With the price of fuel if you are going to Alaska everyone needs to watch there pennies. So we had to have one night in a park and one out.
The tours we took - I felt bad for them operating at less than 50% capacity.Frustrated - you bet, hope I'm the only one.
Edited for political rant. Sorry, but a travelogue is only that.

There are many nice places available in Homer for way less than $85. It really doesn't matter the cost of the highest priced site in town.
States I have spent the night in my current rig, bought three years ago.
Have RV'ed through 49 states and been in all 50, just short of my half-century.
We leave today, from Soap Lake, WA, going into Canada. We will stay tonight at Desert Gem RV Resort in Oliver for 2 nights. Friday we are visiting 3 wineries, Gehringer, Silver Sage and Desert Hills. Saturday we will head to Canyon Hot Spgs, BC.
Hi all - there is a town park in North Pole - more like a pull-off behind the metal "north pole" on 5th ave/st in front of the town park - the lady at the info center volunteered before we even asked that small things could stay there (we have a van, she mentioned tents, too). She said you could use the restrooms at the park - lets just say less than appealing! But it worked fine for us for an overnight!
Found another "deal" over the past couple days - the Upper Chatanika State Rec Area on the road to Circle - Steese Highway - is a non-maintained state park right on the river! Pretty spot - good grayling fishing - no fee - but also no fresh water. The vault toilets were ok to use.

Well I met up with loggenrock and we had a nice visit. Gave him some ideas of where to stay on the next leg of their trip and we chatted about where they had been. Got to see the inside of their Class B Roadtrek and while it works great for them, it's a tad small for my crew! LOL! But I have to give them kudos for making the trip. At least they aren't letting the current economy stop them from travelling!
So now the tally is four RV.net folk...who'll be next?
We are leaving Oliver, BC, will spend tonight in Canyon Hot Spgs at Canyon Hot Spgs Resort, then on to Canmore, AB. We will be staying at Spring Creek RV cg for 2 nights.
We hope everyone is having as much fun as we are. It has been a constant party.
