We just arrived back in the US today. Crossed the border at Waterton/Glacier parks. Immigration formalities only took a couple of minutes from wheels stopped to rolling again but the primary officer who talked to us really does need to find a job where he does not have to deal with the public. The ice was broken somewhat when another officer jokingly asked why we would come from Bermuda to Montana to Vacation & how we got the truck & trailer across the ocean to the East Coast???? "A very fast run up to the beach so that we could hydro plane the 600 miles to NC" was my answer. I thought about asking if he wanted a sign? A good laugh all round & we were on our way again.
We have a few days in Glacier Nat Pk then Yellowstone next week then a dash across country back to MD.

We crossed the border in 2006 at Eureka into Montana and It was the easiest crossing we have ever had. You must have gotten the agent who had a bad day. We just got back from 3 weeks of tent camping all over alaska and it was spectacular we saw all the major animal except the wolf and saw the mountain multiple days as well. The public use cabins are very nice in Alaska as well. I loved the hand sanitizer most of the state campgrounds nice touch. Missed my rv though..Keep on camping

We're in beautiful downtown Sitka. We just arrived yesterday just after midnight and have really enjoyed our Inside Passage. Stops and 3 to 4 day visits at Ketchikan, Wrangell and Petersburg and now Sitka have been really great. This is our 3rd trip to Ak but first time on the Marine Highway. It's an Alaskan scenery we've not seen before and would have hated to miss it. Our ferry ride to Sitka day before yesterday was filled with Humpback viewings and other great scenery. We leave here Sat and head to Juneau for 5 days then our last stop on the ferry is Haines the 24th, where we begin our road trip through Ak. Can't wait to get to Homer or Ninilchek for some Halibut fishing and salmon on the Kenai.

We just hit a major snag in our trip. We were 40 miles South of Fairbanks on the way to Denali when the engine blew. 6 hours later, the tow truck got us to Northern Truck in Fairbanks. Wonderful tow man ( Gabes Towing), Northern now says we need a new motor.(19,000 miles on ISL Cummins, so it's under warranty), but it looks like it will take at least 2 weeks to get a replacement, so we are continuing the trip in the toad. The bad thing is we have to stay in cabins, B&B's and hotels. BUMMER. BTW< Good Sam did a nice job setting up the repair and tow.

Hjudge49,
Sorry to hear about your engine problems but glad you have a toad to continue touring.
In 2002, we had engine problems in Fairbanks and was stuck waiting for parts for 5 days.
Try to keep enjoying this beautiful country,

Is anyone coming to Valdez? I am here now, and want to give anyone headed here and using Mike/Terry Church's Alaskan Camping book a head's up. The phone number listed for Bear Paw RV Park is actually the # for Bayside. The correct # for Bear Paw: 907-835-2530. I learned all this the hard way, but luckily owners at both parks were understanding. The ride from Anchorage area to Valdez was beautiful, and the weather was decent. Today, it's raining. We had been in Seward, and really enjoyed it. Stayed at Stoney Creek, a good park. Safe travels. We are going to be heading to Haines, via Tok, so we have lots of miles to cover the next couple of days. Enjoy

Aww klm...we are heading out tonight to come down there. Don't know if we'll meet up with you or pass you on the road. We will be arriving in Valdez tomorrow (7/18) and staying at Eagle's Rest. But if you are still in town for a day or so, let me know and I can try to pop in to meet you at least.
