Pritch - Just wanted to let you know, I read your reply.
Good to hear all went well for you with (all the) money up front.
Great benefit for the dealer!

Maybe we will hear back from "Rheevs" on how he handles his purchase.

The question was for the brother in law. His local Jayco dealer copped a real attitude when he asked them to match or come close to RV Direct's quote. He actually went back to them to buy but was treated very badly so he went with RVD. The Pay up front was a surprise and I just thought I would get some feedback. It is a good deal for the dealer and is probably why there prices are so low. I think they should have been more up front on there web sight and in making the original deal with the BIL. RVD did not have the brand I wanted so I used a local dealer. I am not sure how I would have reacted had I gone with RVD. I'll post when the BIL's deal is done Good or bad he has a $2000 commitment.

Here is the update I promised.
BIL contacted RVD in May when is my unit going to be built?
RVD did not order the unit back in April as promised.
Something about a credit check?
BIL had financing at his own credit union and was paying cash.
After BIL told RVD he was paying cash RVD him it would be 12 weeks.
BIL contacted Jayco in May and told them how RVD had dropped the ball.
Jayco told BIL they would deliver a new 2009 on June 10.
Jayco delivered as promised.
RVD would not do a buyoff until June 18.
Bil picked up unit June 18.
Bottom line BIL got a 2009 unit for $9000 less than a 2008.
Would he buy there again?
Yes but would be in contact with RVD everyday.

Rheevs,
I had to pay IN FULL before they ordered my unit. The salesman and the owner never mentioned this. When the secretary/receptionist? asked for the money in full I said she must be mistaken. I don't want to pay until after the PDI. The owner called me, (or e-mailed, I don't remember and more or less accused me of bullying his employee. I had a choice, tell him to stuff it or pay $8000 more locally. I choose to pay RVD in full and save the $8000 because I was buying a Jayco and I knew the warranty came from Jayco, (a quality company with integrity), and not RVD. Luckily I was an experienced RVer because the PDI was done by a cleaner and every question I asked him, he said I'll have to ask a tech. This never happened because they were all busy. (the salesman said the PDI was going to be done by a tech) The salesman kept me waiting even though I could see him sitting there having his coffee. He was VERY BRUSK, probably because I complained to the boss that he had never mentioned that I had to pay in full before seeing the unit. I feel that no one had ever gone over the unit because things that I ordered were not there such as the spare tire and cover.
Of course, many people will say they walk on water and they had a wonderful experience and they still send Christmas cards to their salesman. Make up your own mind as to who to believe.

I didn't buy from RV Direct but did buy in IN, the dealer gave me a 30 day transit permit and we went to KY for the winter.
While in KY we registered the new unit in NY.
Why couldn't anyone do the same? If you don't want to stay in KY just take the trailer home to your home state and register it there.

I've purchased many vehicles outside my home state and always received a temp tag for transit. RVD could do this also. In one instance I had to provide a check in advance but it was made out to the dealer AND me.

I just picked up my new Heartland Sundance 2 weeks ago from RV Price Busters in Indiana.
I paid them $1000 by credit card at the time I ordered it and was not asked for any more money until after the PDI and I was ready to roll back to WY.

I have bought two units from a wholesale dealer in Ohio, Couch's RV Nation and we paid a deposit on a credit card, and then the remainder when we picked up the camper, after we had the demo/walkthrough. We were given a 30day tag at pickup. There was a driver there too, picking one up to take to a customer in Canada, and they got a 30day tag to take to the customer too.
I do know that if they are delivering the camper out of state, it has to be paid for before it leaves their lot. I mean, you can't expect a dealer to hire a driver, ship it across the country, and what if you weren't there to meet them? Then they have a real problem!

RV Wholesalers didn't have a problem doing that. I gave them a $1000 deposit by credit card upon ordering. The balance was given to their driver upon successful delivery and PDI to me in New Jersey.

Well, I think that is just crazy. If I owned a business like that, I would not let one go without it being paid for (if it were being delivered across the country). If they get burned once they will regret it I'm sure.
