What's with the tank bag on the yellow one?

Hi nayther,
The tank bag and rear racks are kind of my idea for a
"Sport Quad/Utility Quad Cross-over". (I am also going to get some cargo bags/trunk for the rear racks).
The racks and bags will not be on the quads 100% of the time.

Although most of our riding will be basically open desert,(i.e.- no racks),...
I would also like to do some mountain trail riding with my wife.

She is new to riding, and wont be doing any jumps, sliding, or ripping around going fast. (Heck, she will probably never even stand up on the pegs, while in motion LOL).

It will be more mellow trail riding, enjoying the view, taking occaisional breaks, maybe a picnic type lunch in the woods, bring along a camera, binoculars, walkie-talkies, etc.

As well,...
I have some buddies in Az. who go hunting often, and I will join them from time to time. So with the rear rack on, I can mount a rifle scabbard, and carry the hunting gear.

I've been fixin' them up with a few accessories, and cant wait to try it out with some of the nice upgrades....

So why did you take sport quads & make them into utility type quads? Wouldn't it have been cheaper to buy utility quads with racks & such already installed. I have a 2000 Honda 400 EX & we use it on trails but it is better suited for duning & fast riding, because it has a manual clutch, in tight spotsa the automatic of a utility vehicle would be better. The 250 you have is an automatic isn't it?

Dune dummy,
Yes you are correct that the 250 has the auto-clutch. it is my wifes bike.
And yes you are correct that a utv would be better suited in tight spots, with a auto- clutch,....
But, the reality of it is ,for the different styles of riding that I intend to do, a Sport Quad with racks fits the bill perfectly.

85% of our riding will be open desert without the racks on, (it only takes 3 bolts to remove them), so that means a Sport Quad is the obvious choice.

10% of our riding will be slower eaiser mountain trails, no whoops, no jumps, no radical performance requirements, I.E.- racks on, picknic basket type ride looking for a nice grassy meadow to have lunch, maybe some crackers and cheese, maybe some wine, lay out a blanket, and ... Oh NEVERMIND !!!

and the last 5% will be me going to meet up with my
Arizona hunting buddies once in a while, for a all guys weekend.
I.E.- rack on, rifle scabbard mounted, ammo,Binoculars, range finder, canteen, some trail-mix, oh yeah,... and maybe a beer or two.

So Far,...
as you see both bikes, fully dressed in all their gear, (and some gear not yet pictured), I still am under $5500. TOTAL Cash spent.
So, no... I really dont feel that I could have better suited my riding needs for less money.

but Thanks for asking !!!
Have a great day, ride hard,
and remember to keep the rubber side down...

Tri5Ron. That is very good that you can enjoy both the desert & mountain riding. I love my 400 EX I have lots of extras & also a set of paddles so I can run it in the dunes. In my opinion it is one of the best all around quads you can get, the suspension is great & the power is enough to get you out of trouble when you need it. I also have a 2005 YFZ 450. That thing is a monster, I love it. Welcome to the world atvs you are going to love it. We have been riding since the Honda atc 90s & I used to race 3 wheelers. It is a lot of fun that you can enjoy with your friends & family. I am 57 & still enjoy riding the quads but most of our time now is in the Rhino. See you in the Dez.
