I looked up the Omaha visitor's bureau and it looks like there are slim pickins for RV parks in the area. How far away from the zoo is Mahoney state park? Or is there a better option? I'm looking to stop and spend a day at the zoo this summer on a return trip from Canada...so we'll have the dogs and will need electric.
Mahoney is about 30 miles from the zoo. But right next to the drive through zoo and the air museum. Mahoney is really nice. You can reserve at ReserveAmerica.com
I see in the Trailer Life guide NP dodge park. And I think there is another around Bellevue. I don't know anything about those.
States I have spent the night in my current rig, bought three years ago.
Have RV'ed through 49 states and been in all 50, just short of my half-century.
The West Omaha KOA is the closest campground with full hookups. Pine Grove is another campground at the Greenwood Exit whih is about 12 miles further to the zoothan the KOA. Mahoney is about 6 miles further away than the KOA and they have 4 FHU sites, half are reservable. Two Rivers State Recreation Area isnd probably about 30 miles away and has about 12 with water and electric and a bunch with electric only. Hayworth City Park in Bellevue may br the closest campground to the zoo, as it is straight south of the zoo in Bellevue, NE. One thing to remember about the State Campgrounds is that you will be required to buy a State Park Sticker in addition to your camping fees. There is an Omaha City campground (Dodge Park)north of the Metro area just off of Interstate 680 right after you cross the bridge into Omaha, I personally have never stayed there and NEVER will, I value my stuff and my life.
Haworth Park in Bellevue isn't in all the directories, but nice option for access to the zoo. City owned park right on the Missouri River, water and electric, paved sites, some 50 amp service, good walking trails and access to a great bike trail. Rates last year were $15.00 or so per night. We have done our shakedown each spring at Haworth, and our camping club usually does one campout there each season. In fact, going there end of April.
Don't know how you would be coming in from Canada, but would suggest accessing the park by going on I-29 South out of Council Bluffs, and go west, crossing the river on 370. Toll bridge that is rather narrow, but carries lots of truck traffic, gets you right to the park. Plus there is a new Camping World there on 29 in Council Bluffs!!

Just seconding the motion on Haworth Park in Bellevue. That would be my choice if I wanted to access downtown Omaha. The Doorly Zoo, by the way, is a world-class zoo with a number of attractions that are unique to it. Good choice. As someone mentioned, near Mahoney St. Park is a drive-thru type zoo that's an adjunct to Doorly. Also adjacent is the Strategic Air & Space Museum which will give you a close-up view of giant military aircraft, etc.

Here's another recommendation for Haworth Park in Bellevue. Very long back-in sites, water and electric, dump nearby. It's a short trip from Haworth to the zoo. If you are military, or have access to government facilities, the Offutt AFB Family Camp at the base lake is a great site - full hookups, pull-throughs.

Dodge Park is one of the very few places DW absolutely refused to stay. We drove through it and she swore she heard banjo music!!! We ended up in Bellvue and enjoyed it. The zoo is well worth the trip. We spent several hours there and could have spent more time.
Both retired. 1 year until son finishes college, then financial freedom! We lost Max, the Schnoodle after 16 wonderful years but now enjoy Nicklaus Von Schnoodle (Nicky), who is a full time job. Our new Allegro Bay 34 XB is wonderful.
