Looking to go to outer banks of NC camping for the first time. Which cg should I choose? Cape Hatteras KOA, Camp Hatteras, Ocean waves? Any other suggestions? I have 2 kids (7&11). Looking to visit Hatteras, Manteo and all areas in between. Thanks

Ocean Waves is nice, but sites can be a little tight at times to get in and out of, especially when its completely full--and I'm guessing they're booked up.
Camp Hatteras is nice, roomy and has stuff on both sides (ocean and sound) for kids to do. We've been going there for the last 4 years. KOA is nice as well. We have been known to go and hang out at the KOA if we decide we want to change scenery. Nice folks there too.

Ocean Waves is half the price of the others and just a real nice place to stay if you are going to Hatteras. There is a new camp ground in Wanchese now just out of Maneto. I believe it is called the Refuge and is a real nice clean place on the sound. Also we now have a rv parts store on the mainland side of the bridge coming in from the north. Just getting started, but have most anything you might need. Nice folks too..

Not many campgrounds around Manteo. The Refuge on Roanoke Island is near Wancheese, looks nice but expensive. Probably worth it. Tom

Have been to both the KOA and Camp Hatteras. Camp Hatteras wins.

I agree with Camp Hatteras. Went three years ago with two 11 year olds and DW. All enjoyed the wide sites and relaxing atmosphere.
