Anyone using a ramp or something else like the swivelwheel to haul that extra something that just won't fit in the toyhauler? I see them every now and then going down wash road (Glamis) but figure they did not haul their Rhino on the back of their 5th wheel for a couple of hundred miles (maybe they did). I want to know if they are as durable as they are supposed to be. Thanks, Brendan

Weekend warrior says 1500 pound limit on the ramp when using the support cables.

I've thought about it, but it would put me over the 45' limit in Oregon (for RV registered trailers).

There is federal reg that applies: Any load extending beyond the body may not be longer than 1/3 the wheelbase of the truck or trailer.

Wheelbase on trailers is pin/ball to axle midpoint. So anything shorter than about 34' probably can't use the ramp and be in compliance with that reg. My 40 footer had a 28' wheelbase, and 1/3 of that is about 9', and the ramps are 7'

I saw a fifthwheel on the Oregon dunes last weekend around 33' feet or so with a platform off the back with a utility bike on the back. There appeared to be a lot of flex (platform and where connected to trailer frame) when the trailer was moving.
I saw it while eating a burger in Dairy Queen so only saw it move 40' or so as it pulled up to a stopsign and left. This guy's platform did not have the swivel wheel on the back, just a freestanding platform connected to the frame.

Before we bought our toyhauler, a friend and I built a platform out of tube steel and metal screen that atached to our 27' fifth with recievers bolted to the frame. Itwas large enough to haul two mid-sized quads. The first version did not have a swivel wheel and did not bend at the receiver so it flexed pretty badly plus it changed the pin wieght dramatically. Next version had a swivel wheel and the tubes had hinges where they fit into the receiver. That worked much better. There is an outfit in Lake Havasu (don't remember the name) that builds one that is big enough to haul a Rino that sells for about $1,800.
The trick is to have a hitch that allows the platform to flex up and down independent of the trailer and a swivel wheel that supports a portion of the wieght.

I saw the same thing leaving the wash road in Glamis, a Rhino hanging on the back of the trailer. The ramp door was closed, so it was a separate ramp they added on. I have no knowledge of how it was set up, but could not imagine hauling it down the road like that. Hopefully they were going across the street to the new storage!

When we had our 33 ft Tahoe i installed 2 receiver holes in the back of the trailer. I made a 4' x 8' platform that fit into them and i ran suport cables from the corners up to the top of the door springs for more support. It worked great but i'm affraid to install it on my Weekend Warrior because of the problems i have had with the trailer frame.
