Before I got my toy hauler, I looked at the option of adding a platform onto the back of my 30' fiver. Being an engineering type, I worked out the forces involved and found that although it was easy to design a platform that would work when the trailer was not moving, it got complicated when I looked at the forces encountered while driving down the road.

The problem is when you go over a bump and the back of the trailer moves downward. The force on the trailer frame is proportional to the velocity squared times the distance from the axle mounts to the center of the additional load.

To make a long story short, I now own a toy hauler!!!

I like the idea of a "tray" for small stuff like a bit of fire wood or some bins of misc stuff but as stated before, lots of force acting on a platform when its hung that far off the back of the vehicle. Plus if its attatched to the trailer and has a wheel touvhing the road, isnt that a trailer and then it would be considered pulling doubles?

When we had our 33 ft Tahoe i installed 2 receiver holes in the back of the trailer. I made a 4' x 8' platform that fit into them and i ran suport cables from the corners up to the top of the door springs for more support. It worked great but i'm affraid to install it on my Weekend Warrior because of the problems i have had with the trailer frame.
what kind of items did you haul and how far did you drive with the items.

Most of the time we only had one Banshee on it. One time we did stand two Raptors up bottom to bottom on it. We towed it from Redding,Ca to Dumont many times , about 12 hour drive.

I think in California it would be clasified as a trailer and you would have to have a Class Commercial license to tow it.

As long as the trailer does not swivel as a secondary trailer, you don't need a class A.
