Sometimes we can't open our coach door. It is not locked. No amount of pounding or working the latch makes a difference.

Then, later, it will open normally. We don't have any correlation with anything; it's not like it won't open, say, when we're on jacks, or in the morning. It's only done this maybe three times. It's a new RV.

The problem seems to be at the latch, as opposed to a corner of the door.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

We're in a Jayco Seneca.

its your leveling of your coach.. you are twisting your coach and the door is offset. this happens to me on my screen door somehow it works fine after a few open and close. the door adjust a little when you open and close and then it works fine. I would check your leveling next time you setup..if you think its your latch you can loosen the screws and move a little the latch a retiten them..

Check the screws that hold the lockset. Our door was hit or miss, sometimes hard to close sometimes easy, even while parked and level. I checked the screws and they had worked loose allowing the lockset to shift and that put everything out of kilter with the jam and strike plate. A bit of tweaking and tightening and it worked like butter.

A real easy way to check your coach for twisting , take some masking tape and put two layers of tape (makes it stiffer and easier to check) at top and bottom of door also at front and back-so one side is on frame and the other on door ,then cut with razor blade. Drive around and park here and there --look at the gap between the tape ,if it stays the same its your lockset or latch.

I've had to adjust the "pins" that stick out on our door latch - it was getting really hard to open and shut. That helped a bunch!

But I've noticed that in cold weather, ours closes harder than in warmer weather.

It turns out to be the pins, I think. They are sticking out enough that they are wearing grooves in the door frame. I don't know how to adjust them, but we're scheduled into the shop for other work next week anyway.

Thanks for all your ideas and suggestions.

Edited to change "siding" to "door frame."

I had the same issue on my '83 Tioga. The lock/latch mechanism seemed loose one day, so I snugged it up. Later that day, the door would not open. The next morning, it opened fine. Turns out the sun shining (or not shining) on the door would expand or contract it enough that the lock would not extract enough to clear the socket. Loosened the whole thing up a little and it worked fine again. I thought "ghosts", too!!! :-)

Funny this thread should appear, as, ive noticed my coach door being harder and harder to open even on level ground. I really have to squeeze the handle to get it to open. Wasnt like that when i bought it . Ive tried lubing it with teflon type spray but didnt make any difference.
