Just one comment on the route - Route 191 from Belgrade to West Yellowstone is more scenic and shorter than taking route 89 from Livingston to Mammouth. Also there are some pretty good grades going into the Park from Gardiner to Mammouth and then again heading south out of Mammouth. Route 191 has no significant grades and the entrance to the Park from West Yellowstone has no grade at all.

We haven't been to Craters of the Moon, but two days in the Tetons and one day there would probably be a better use of your time.

I assume that the times for the travel days are for driving only, but even so I would be surprised if you could make the longer distances in the times estimated.

We did similar trip last year, but we went from Glacier to Seattle then south to Astoria,Or. and followed Rt 101 south. The Oregon coast is fabulous.

We traveled a good portion of your route in 2004. Enjoy the trip up the side of Flathead Lake...be sure to stop and get some cherries if they are ripe. We are spending the summer at the St. Mary KOA so if you are on the east side, come see us while you are at Glacier! (Look for the Maine license plate RECESS)

To save some fuel, A couple of suggestions:

From Kennewick to Glacier no need to go to Missoula. Take route 135 from I-90 to 93.

From Glacier to Yellowstone no need to go to Great Falls. Take 287 from to Wolf Creek.

One of our favorite campgrounds is the Cabinet Gorge Campground at the junction MT58 and MT200. Would require that you change your route to take 95 north from Coeur d'Alene to Ponderay to pick up 200.

Adjusted--Thanks!

Technically, we will have 2 days in the Grand Tetons. We are moving from Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone to Colter Bay in the Grand Tetons--I figure less than 2 hours driving, another hour to set up and then--BAM! we are off to do more exploring.

I assume that the times for the travel days are for driving only, but even so I would be surprised if you could make the longer distances in the times estimated.

Your right--I am only figuring driving time. Breaks are NOT included.

Thanks for the offer, but we are staying on the west side in North American RV Park.

There is NOTHING in Kennwick to see/do. And you are missing a whole bunch of neat stuff in between. Near Bend is the High Desert Museum, Lava Rives Caves, MT Bachelor, and the Metolious River. This does not mention the Cascades Lakes Highway. That is a LOT of driving in a relatively short period of time. Personally I think I would skip some of this and either drive straight through to MT or drop that part pf the trip in favor of more time in one place. Don't get me wrong it is doable, but a LOT of driving.Especially with that nearly 40 foot Creek.

It looks like your mileage is a little short on the leg from Glacier to Yellowstone. From West Yellowstone to Fishing Bridge is 50 miles. On Google maps it comes in a close to 500 miles for the day.

A couple of suggestions: unless you have a good reason for Kennewick/Tricities skip the central OR and from Crater Lake head for Eugene and the OR cooast at Florence. Then up 101 all the way around the Olympic Peninsula to Port Townsend and across the ferry to Oak Harbor. Then 20 across North Cascades national Park and continue on 20 to Sandpoint ID. Then 2 to Glacier. This may be a bit long for your time frame but it is a great, beautiful ride.
Save Yellowstone for a separate trip??
Whatever you choose - enjoy.

I agree there is NOTHING in Kennwick--it is just an overnight stop to Glacier National Park. I also agree that there are things we are passing up--that said--my family and I have NEVER been west of Ohio before coming to California and we will be leaving next summer. Our goal was to prioritize what we wanted to see--Redwoods, Crater Lake, Glacier NP, Yellowstone NP, Grand Tetons NP, and Craters of the Moon rose to the top of the list. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Agreed, that mileage is in red to alert me to a long towing day. Goal on those days is to be up and towing by 0700!

As much as we wanted to see all of the west we prioritized our visits--we might do the Oregon / Washington visit during the Summer 2009 trip. Thanks for the suggestion.
