Just the time of year I like to start thinking. We already have a week planned at Interlochen in June.
What is your favorite Michigan SP and why?? Mine is Wilderness and we prefer the Pines unit.
Feel free to recommend a private campground as well, but I'm not much of a "resort" type camper...the SP environment suits my family better.
Thanks!

interlochen is our favorite, we go there every year, it makes a great base camp for visiting the TC area. You just can't beat having a lakefront campsite in such a desirable area for 19$ bucks a night.

We actually have two favorite campgrounds. We like Muskegon SP the channel unit because we can watch the car ferry and an occasional lake boat come up the channel from Lake Michigan to Lake Muskegon on the river walk and Aloha SP because we like the beach there and they have a dog friendly beach also.

We're going to Interlochen in July. We like Van Buren state park alot. Ludington is very nice but it books up quick. We've been to alot of Michigan State parks, it just depends on what you want like water, etc....even Traverse City is fun in the city. We have about 5 trips planned so far for this summer at state parks.

I think we haven't been to our favorite yet. We keep hearing a lot of good things about McLain SP, and hope to try it out one of these years! So far we've liked PJ Hoffmaster best, of the ones we've been to. And Tahquamenon Falls is pretty nice too.

Yep, Mclain has my vote. Most sites are big and have a lake view. Plus the sunsets are spectacular.

DW and I vacationed in Michigan about 5 years ago. We stayed at 4 state parks and 1 National Forest park. Our vote goes to McLain as well because of the wonderful sunsets.

Anybody going to Interlochen S.P. should take in the performances at the music camp if in the summer and the band and orchestra performances at the Arts Academy during the school year. Every two weeks there is a band concert and the alternating two weeks there is an orchestra concert. Unlike a typical high school these kids get new music every time a concert is finished and prepare it for the next. These kids are amazing. You've never heard high school kids play like these. We were there every two weeks for a concert for two years until our son graduated.
