Our camper has been winterized since last late fall for the winter. This Saturday I plan to open our camper to get ready for the spring. We have 2007 Cameo made by Carriage. We have 10 gallon water heater made by Suburban that comes with gas/electric and DSI. Now I have a question about anode. I plan to insert the anode back in the water tank. Do I need to put Teflon tape and few drop of mineral oil on anode tread before I insert? Thank you.

If most of your anode still exists, yep, put it back in. Teflon tape will help removal next fall. YMMV. Have a great camping season.

Plus the tape will help seal up on the threads. As a thought, flush out tank before installing the rod. be surprised as to how much******comes out. What does the mineral oil do?

I read that you are NOT supposed to use the tape, as it makes a barrier and stops the conductivity of the rod to the tank. Makes the rod ineffective. It needs to make contact to work.

stripit is correct, you should use pipe thread compound, not Teflon tape. Might want to check your electric element too. Just had to replace mine, unit is 4yrs old; it was half gone/ate up. Flush tank really good also.

What is a good process for flushing out the hot water tank? I replace the anode rod annually whether it needs it or not. They're cheap and easy to replace. I have never actually flushed out the tank though.

I have received a message from Suburban and said they recommended to use teflon tape. I remember somewhere they mention about compound. They said not to use compound because it will froze the tread and hard to remove anode. So I do not know if this information is correct or not?

Limit to 1, or at most 2, turns of teflon tape. You will still get electrical connectivity through the tape.

After you remove the anode, turn the water faucet on and let it runs few minutes. It will flush out sediment.
