To each his own.....I have found that the Xantrex Inverter/Charger has sone advantages...Takes up less room in the RV...It has got to be easier to install....manages all the power input and output for the RV...autostart on the gen set and auto shut off...battery equalization...and yes get rid of the factory installed converter!

There is no such thing as an inverter/converter, only an inverter/charger. With regards to your converter, if you get a xantrex inverter/charger, all you have to do with your original converter is unplug it. If you get access to actually see it, you should see a wall plug coming off of the back - unplug it BUT leave it mounted. If you ever want to sell your RV you simply remove the inverter/charger and plug the inverter back in.

So are you saying that I don't need a converter? When I am using the gen or plugged in how do I get 12 volt?

An inverter/charger also performs the converter functions when the charger is running. Same difference.
