Does anyone have or had a Palomino Stampede? We are currently looking at one (S17)to up-grade from our pop-up. We like the quality of the unit we have seen, but would like some in-put from owners.
What do you like/dislike. Any leaks, maintenance problems?
Thanks.

I have a 2002 model. We upgraded from a pup also. It's 24' with bunk beds in the back and one tip out in front. Our family of 5 love it. We bought it used, but in fantastic shape. We've had absolutely no problems or leaks with it. That includes driving through the worst rain I have ever driven in last summer on the way back north from Florida and nothing leaked at all. I was at the Atlantic City RV show recently and my wife and I did not find any hybrids that we would replace ours with. It fits our needs perfectly.

we were unable to find a Palomino Stampede dealer anywhere near. we would have liked to look at any model they make. but the nearest Palomino was 300 miles away and they didn't carry the Stampede.
they look good from the online pics we've seen.
they don't have a large dealer network and seem to be one of the rarest brands of hybrid. Forest River owns them now, so maybe that will help.

We had a stampede 2006 22TBRG and liked how the camper was put together but realized after one season that we didn't like the floorplan as much as we originally thought (hindsight is 20/20). We did have a problem with a leak, but our dealer took care of it right away and we had no further problems. We traded it a year later for our Jayco and there were several things about the Palomino we did kind of miss but there are no regrets. They did make some decent changes after we bought ours but I believe as one other post noted Forest River bought/took over the line and I haven't seen nor heard much about them since this has happened. I do think they are a good camper and if you have a good dealer that will service it when needed and you like the floorplan then it's worth considering.

I have the Stampede 17 and really like it. It's built by Vanguard Industries. For all you sailors out there, they build the Sunfish and Laser sailboats too. The build quality of the cabinetry and such doesn't seem to be too bad really, and it tows very nice. It has an independant torsion axle underneath it. What sold me on this camper was that it was much more loaded than many of the other smaller campers. It has an oven, not just a cooktop, ducted furnace, where others had just a single outlet, outside shower, and many other amenities.

What I don't like about it is the dismal job they did wiring it up. The stereo speakers were wired wrong, and I have found numerous connections and such that were not crimped tightly. The wiring was also not neatly stowed or tied back, and in some cabinets, it is a rat's nest of tangled wiring behind the scenes. I have been working on replacing connectors and tying back wiring.

Thanks to Steve W. This is exactly the rig we are looking at. Mostly will be just 2 of us, but occasionally a grandson goes along. We think is's just the right size. Also looks like we'll have no problem towing with a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7. Thanks again to all.

Your Jeep Grand Cherokee ought to be able to tow a Stampede 17 extremely well. My Astro-van does the job quite well. One thing you may want to do if you find a Stampede 17 is to add shelves to the wardrobe closet beside the galley...it's very skinny (10 inches wide, 24inches deep) , and almost totally useless unless you do. The dinette is a little tight for more than 3 people, but for the two of you and your grandson, it ought to do nicely. I end up usually taking the dinette table outside and putting it outside, and then eating around that with lawn chairs. Your grandson ought to sleep quite nicely on the rear bunk in this TT, and you guys ought to enjoy the queen size bunk up front. Another thing I found nice about this TT is that it has 30 gallon black, gray and fresh water tanks too!

A neat thing I found out this weekend is that the battery tray on the tongue is designed to carry two T105 golf car batteries without any mods! It's rails are at the perfect dimensions for this, so if you choose to boondock, that is an easy upgrade.
