Short notice, but we have to be in Raleigh early Monday morning. Can anyone recommend a good campground between Asheville and Raleigh for tomorrow night? We have a Class B and are self-contained but like electricity when we can get it. Suggestions would be appreciated.
We've stayed several times at the Greensboro CG in Greensboro, NC. It isn't too far off I-40, but a little hard to find at night. We also stayed twice at Lake Meyers CG, but it is a long way from I-40. Both are decent and reasonably priced but not fancy.
You might want to check out Jordan Lake Recreation area, it has over a 1000 campsites with electric and water. We stayed there at the end of March and it was beautiful campground. If you are a senior the fees are $14 an if not they are $20 a night. We got there off of Hwy 64, but I'm sure there is another way to get there, we are not from that area and found it by accident. Good Luck

There is also a Yogi Bear in Marion, Just off 40. Also Tom Johnson's Rally park is at Marion as well. But I'm guessin. You want to go farther up the road.

Jordan is only about a half hour from Raleigh & this time of year the ticks can be unbelievable. We stayed there last year for a weekend getaway & left after the 1st night because the ticks were sooo bad. A friend of mine who owns a pest control company also stayed last summer and told me they also left after one night because of the ticks & they had treated their campsite! We both said we won't go back.
Thanks for all the prompt suggestions. We got a late start on Saturday and only made it to Morganton where we camped at Steele Creek. It was pleasant and quiet but the bathroom for our area was pretty dreary! On the way back yesterday we checked out Lake Meyer's and Midway for future trips. Both looked good for overnight. We are big fans of Mama Gertie's outside Asheville. We stay there when in Asheville on business.
